How is it still sealed if he checked one of the discs?  Don't you have to OPEN it to check?

I remember catching wind of clear vinyl, I never actually saw any proof. You'd think we would've seen aomething on this forum during the release.

I opened extremely carefully the plastic sleeve on the side to check on one of the vinyls (didn't check both though because I would have had to open too much on the side).
the actual factory plastic is still intact and all is brand new. It's just that I had to check on one of the discs to make sure I wasn't buying and then selling a black copy.
I can 100% guarantee it's new....and clear discs.

I'd be wary guys. With all these high-dollar deluxe packages being released lately, there's also been a pretty big expansion in the bootleg vinyls department. I for one and pretty surprised no-one has ever heard of this before.

this release is roadrunner official: check with them is needed.
also, this item has been on Franz' (Dream theater worlwide number 1 collector) for 2 years now.
No copy has ever surfaced before now (I got mine 2 years ago).
making a bootleg vinyl would be way too expensive for bootlegers...you can't imagine how expensive it's got to be to make such a bootleg.
I'd ask enjoy the ride to have an idea of the thousands of dollars needed to make images and words on vinyl...
Perpetual change: you have never seen a copy of the clear vinyls: the official professionnal quality is behond what you can imagine...

I'm just weary because there never was a thread for these before. Some of the biggest DT collectors in the world are here, you'd think we'd hear about it. To be fair I was banned around the time of the release, so maybe I missed it.

Someone saw them on ebay, but there was never confirmation that they were legit. Also in the search, there are lots of auctions for these. Maybe they do exist! It's just weird that no one has had them on the forum.

That's just not true. There are plenty of places that press vinyls, and it's not that expensive to have it done at all. Sure, it'd be expensive for me to go out and buy a professional grade press, but it would not be unreasonably expensive at all for me to drive into the city and order a couple dozen vinyl recordings of my band's newest music. Now, if I owned the press, and I was already known to be a shady guy who intentionally holds back "sold out" limited editions of things I'm pressing for bands so I that I can sell them on e-bay and make some more money off 'em, it'd be even easier for me to make some quick cash with relatively little cost and work. Catch my drift?

That, BTW, is how bootlegging works. A factory gets told to make 100 of X item to deliver to Y distributor, and instead the factory makes as many of X item as they can, holding back the extra products to sell for their own profit. 

AFAIK there is only the regular vinyl issue available which was produced by Cargo Records. Since I live in Germany and read the respective magazines etc. I hope I would've noticed the clear vinyl.

indeed, no colouring (or lack thereof, in this case!) is indicated at the official Cargo Records* website.

*this is Cargo Records Germany - as opposed to the UK one, which is a different company altogether, and which does not distribute any DT releases whatsoever.

I think the clear/colored vinyl looks awesome, but recently I've heard that the sound quality suffers. Is this true?

I don't have a record player. I haven't opened both inner sleeves, just one to make sure the discs are clear. I checked with some dream theater collectors and they can confirm the cargo 200 clear vinyls are genuine and authorized by the band label (roadrunner) and the roadrunner logos and bar codes etc are all on the sleeve.
sorry I can't help with audio quality...

It's probably the lyrics in English or Japanese. I have several Japanese releases and most of the times they come with two booklets with the lyrics printed on both languages.

thanks for expertise bootstrap. I'm selling the same copy, same bar code, same item. I bought it straight from cargo 2 years ago, and the polish seller you're mentionning wasn as far as I know, the only seller for this clear double LP. BTW, cheap prices back in 2011...

I am a Dream theater backstage pass collector and HATE fakes. I have been collecting passes for the last 12 years now.

I have a test press for this clear vinyl (2 copies in the world), but that one I'm not selling, only trading for backstage passes.

I own this Japanese release and the coloured booklet is the standard English booklet with lyrics. The black / white booklet is the Japanese booklet with Japanese lyrics and band info etc. The new Japanese release comes always with two booklets one with the Standard English lyrics etc, and the second one with the Japanese lyrics, lyrics for the bonus songs, if applicable, the usual introductory / band info in Japanese etc.
