For the riff alone, I'd say either Bridges in the Sky or Honor Thy Father. For the whole song, that would be a lot harder. TGP and TDS are definitely up there, as are TDEN and ANTR. What do you guys think?

philmcson

Uhm, I consider As I am, BITS, ANTR, Honor thy father, TGP to be very heavy songs. Panic attack, too! And TSF  :tup

Pols Voice

Honor Thy Father comes to mind.

BlobVanDam

Everyone's going to have their own idea of what defines "heavy", but I'd definitely go with TDEN, and maybe ANTR second.

Bolsters

I've never really considered Bridges in the Sky to be a heavy song. Sure, there's some heavy riff/section in it, but I don't think that defines the whole song. Compared to something like The Glass Prison or Honor Thy Father, I have difficulty saying that Bridges in the Sky is one of DT's heaviest songs. Infact I wouldn't say it at all.

To throw in another contender: RAW DOG.

The Mirror is the heaviest DT song.

The Presence of Frenemies

Honor Thy Father and This Dying Soul are the two that really spring to mind, though The Mirror/Lie are up there too.

Honor Thy Father, This Dying Soul and Dark Eternal Night... If I had to choose one, I'd say Honor Thy Father, since it's also got the angriest lyrics among all of them.

The Mirror

I think so too. The outro riff is unbelievably heavy.

Dellers

A few, really. Bridges, ITNOG, This Dying Soul. Note that I believe that heavyness and hardness are two different things. TDEN may be really hard, but it isn't all that heavy IMO. In general I love heavyness, but dislike hardness if that makes sense. I dig songs like Kamelot's March Of Mephisto which I consider to be really heavy, but hate black metal. The latter and stuff like that I consider to be mainly hard and stressy, while heavyness is something completely different. Blast beats for instance takes away a lot from heavyness IMO.

Yea when we're talking heavy riff/song The Mirror is the first that pops up in my head but i wouldn't say it's very hard or agressive, that is more suiting to ANTR or BMUBMD but i would say DT have no song that i would define as agressive anyway. It's all in what you define as agressive, heavy or hard.

BlobVanDam

I don't consider The Mirror that heavy, compared to DT's later stuff that is. It's a great song, but aside from chugging a low B chord, there's not a lot in there that I consider a property of heaviness.

wolfking

The Mirror is DT's heaviest song because of the atmosphere and Labrie's vocals, even though something like TDS or HTF have heavier music and riffs, The Mirror is just dark and has a thick, somewhat disturbing atmosphere.  This makes it heavier than anything else DT has done IMO.

BlobVanDam

It's dark yes, but it's far from their heaviest song. Dark != heavy.

Heaviest: Panic Attack
Angriest: Honor Thy Father

I'd say both ANTR and ITNOG include some of the heaviest DT moments ever, but songs like Honor Thy Father, TGP, TDEN and As I Am are the heaviest overall.

YtseJamittaja

Honor Thy Father and This Dying Soul. Maybe The Mirror too.

And as Ville said, ANTR includes the heaviest DT moments ever.

OsMosis2259

ANTR and TGP come to my mind!

jonnybaxy

As I am?  Honor thy father.

Marion Crane

I think they're heaviest riff is easily the bridge riff that's in TGP and TDS

Lolzeez

The Mirror. With those dark vocals.

Yes it does, but Beautiful Agony-section is not heavy the slightest.

^That's exactly what I meant: some of the riffs are really heavy, but Beautiful Agony prevents the song itself from being the heaviest DT have put out.

SeRoX

Dark and heavy are different elements that can be identified a song as a heavy track or dark track. The Mirror has two elements and that's why it's heaviest.

Lucidity

Honor Thy father isn't as heavy as Dark Eternal Night or The Mirror, and BiTS isn't even close. And the Glass Prison is consistently moderately heavy, but the only really headbanging, speaker-blasting part is the intro. I think DEN is the heaviest DT song unless Raw Dog is counted. If it is, then Raw Dog hands down.

The Presence of Frenemies

The Dark Eternal Night has ragtime in it. Automatic disqualifier.
