I've met such a situation too, in physical life. From the same guy that got me into DT :emo:

MoraWintersoul

The guy who pointed me in the direction of some good prog and who was the first and the biggest DT fan I've met in "real life" thinks they should reunite with MP or otherwise they're done. so uhm yeah

"in real life" :lol

What I tried to say is that that's to me a quite ineducated wish, just like those of people asking "DT pls come to indonesia" two weeks after DT had actually come to Indonesia.  :lol

About two years ago, or maybe three, I would have had to agree with you, but I think I have grown to ignore LSFNY for the most, and TSCO took some shit for being itself in the lot. Did you happen to see the other two performances with Theresa guesting that took place in 2005? One of them was in London!

Yeah I saw the London show with her singing on Dark Side of the Moon!

wasteland

I should retrieve the bootleg. I havn't heard that version of TSCO w/ Theresa in years...

I went to both nights of that two-night stand in 2005. Just incredible. The setlists were almost perfect, and the encore of TSCO and LtL cannot be beaten. Eargasmic. It was a shame Theresa got the lyrics wrong again though!

wasteland, do you have the bootleg of the 25/10/05? I thought it was forbidden from being shared. I wish they'd released the entire show on DVD, rather than just the DSOTM set. It was all filmed, after all.

PixelDream

His solo in Scarred, after the keyboard solo.

RichardRG

His first solo in "When the Water Breaks."

ReaperKK

If we are going on albums then Voices is my favorite.

The Live In Tokyo To Live Forever jam and Bombay Vindaloo are my favorite solos of his tho. I'd rather take those solos over BTL jam solo or HY from Budokan, those seem to lack the finesse that JP seemed to show off more in his younger years.

Lines in the Sand

(and did anyone mentioned Lie wah solo?

wasteland

The Wah solo is the proper Lie or the Mirror Reprise solo?

Second solo :D

wasteland

Oh, that's lovely! One of the best outro solo ever written by DT! It's better on The Mirror than it is on Lie, though :D

Outro is better or solo is better?

wasteland

It's the best solo on Lie, but work best as outro of The Mirror (when it was played as such) than outro for Lie.  :)

TRIAL OF TEARS

Agreed! Fantastic solo! Hope he does a similar one on the new album. I know he can do it! :)

fisotteke

For me it's Goodnight Kiss. Not the most difficult one, but played with very much emotion !!

You are the first to agree with me on this! Granted, it's the first time that I speak my mind on such a topic

JayOctavarium

I always forget about the second solo until I get to it in the song.

If you mean the outro, then yes, I did.

I know many questions simpler than this one...

Let's say the latest awesome solo by JP is on "Breaking all illusions". :tup

Yup, it might be the best moment in the entire song. Reminds a bit about the solo in Lines in the Sand.

Live: Hollow Years LaB

Nothing he has done tops LaB for me.  I'm no professional guitar player by any means but his skill and musicianship in that solo (and intro) is literally awesome.  Then again, since I have all the official tab books I've learned over the years to notice these little things (his style if you will) that are present in JPs playing that most people never hear which makes it all the more impressive to me.  It was touched on earlier in the thread by PetFish, but he puts so many little touches in his playing be it slides, hammer/pull-offs, slight bends.  It's usually unnoticed by many, but when you hear the songs without them you realize how much they actually add.  Frequently, when I watch youtube vids of covers or look at tab on UG they are missing all these bits and it just sounds awful tbh.

Hollow Years LaB is full of little moments like that.  Love how he turns his ridiculously low action's negative into a positive at the beginning by using the fret buzz to make it sound more acoustic-y.  Also love the slow build to the climax at the end as well.  When he hits that bend w/wah at 5:30 it's chill inducing.  It's unfortunate he's never been able to match that performance when playing the extended solo afterwards* (that I have ever heard at least).

*IMO

I think the only place LaB falls down is after solo at the key change.  The song still has its power up till that point, but it gets a little bright there and loses some of its power.  Perhaps would have been better to work a way to end the song on the chorus and key immediately after the solo instead.  That would be my only quibble with the song, but it's still fine as it stands.

LieLowTheWantedMan

Never got the love for UaGM solo. It's one of the most ordinary and "nothing-special" solos in their entire discography. Rest of the song is better.

I'll go with The Inevitable Summer in ACoS.

*great post*

Great post indeed  :tup I have a question for you: would you find this version to be better? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5PNGaP0zvo
(I can provide better audio quality, if you wish, but the video can't be improved). Keyboard and vocal wise I think it is, as it is the ending (much longer and on a tight chort, instead of the horrible segue into WIMH). Waiting for your opinion as much as the guitar goes. :)

Thanks :D  I do like the majority (keys, vocals, etc) of that version better, but still feel the guitar doesn't hold up to LaB.  IDK, it's hard to describe but usually on the extended solo it sounds very jumbled and not very cohesive, and though it most likely is not, almost sounds out of tempo at times.  That video did have a couple of small moments where I liked the direction he took it over LaB though!  It was a bit hard to hear though, especially in the beginning so I probably missed quite a bit of those little things I talked about haha.

Thanks for sharing that!  Gonna have to check out the rest of the videos on that channel.  Is it yours?

Edit:  I think a lot of it is probably they practiced ultra hard for LaB since it was such a huge show for them and was also being recorded for audio and video release lol.  Not that they don't try hard usually but I'm sure that day was especially (special) serious for them.

Well, judging from the low viewcounts (shame!) I seem to be one of the fewest to regurlarly attend it. I guess this alone would make it a bit mine, wouldn't it? :D

XD  It has some very nice videos on it indeed.  Was watching TTT and Another Day on it the other day.  Thanks for sharing~

Edit:  Oh man at them playing soccer during Ytse Jam on the 2002 Instrumedley video.
