A few years too late probably but I only just realised that the whole "Endless Album" thing

Lasted from Scenes From A Memory until Octavarium.

Albums 5 - 8 .

I only just noticed this.

As you were.  :| :sadpanda:

TheGreatPretender

I don't even know if that was intentional. I remember MP saying that he simply wanted to stop that cycle with Octavarium, because they didn't want to trap themselves in that pattern for all the future albums.

Kotowboy

It may be a coincidence but it is a mighty weird one of it is.

But you never know. Noel Gallagher from Oasis wrote a song before the band was even signed and he said it would be on the 3rd album and it was.

So - some bands do plan things like that . But probably just coincidence.

What about Six Degrees two discs having 5 tracks and 8 tracks ? Is that intentional ?

Kotowboy

Also - 8 seems like the perfect album to stop it on as the infinity symbol looks like a moebius strip etc etc.

They may have thought well if we're gonna stop it - best to do it on album 8.

The Letter M

 :o :tup

I think I realized that sometime ago, but had forgotten. NICE! Ironic and weird, but funny if not intentionally planned!

In many ways Octavarium felt like an end of an era for Dream Theater. It was their last album with that label, and I think it had a tone of finality to it.

Kotowboy

I love Octavarium - I listened to it in full on the train yesterday and I still love it.

Never noticed this. A cool little unintentional nugget!

That's actually a pretty interesting nugget, in truth.

I had a mindfuck once when I looked at Octavarium on iTunes. On the CD, the title track is listed as 24:00, but on iTunes, it's listed as 23:58. So, THAT's weird, but on top of that, I have this old song I wrote before I saw that (and never knew about the 5/8 nuggets) called '2358' which was named after the Iron Maiden song 'Two Minutes to Midnight" (23:58 = 11:58 PM), and they're one of DT's main influences. O.O

Of raaaaaaaaaaaawk.

IdoSC

Since Octavarium is the album that deals with this whole continuity theme, "The story ends where it began", it seems perfectly reasonable for it to break the endless album motif. The fact that it started on the fifth album seems more like a happy coincidence though.

Kotowboy

I wonder if they have anything planned for their 13th album.

The Letter M

Well DT12 will be JR's 8th album. His first album started the cycle, his 5th was the first album after the cycle, so what will his 8th album bring? Another cycle?!

I doubt it. I'm sure they're mainly focusing on bringing awesome music.  :metal

His 7th album featured a Uni-cycle.
