If I had split Six Degrees into sections, some of them could've made it to my list and Solitary Shell is definitely one of them. I can relate to the lyrics, except for the craziness, too - the line you quoted in the writeup is actually a perfect description of me.

And now for the least controversial song in the ranking.....

2 - Learning to Live

Free the sensation in my heart to ride the wings of dreams into changing horizons - No surprise here. I'm not sure I can say much about this song that hasn't already been said but it's great in every aspect, every member of the band does a perfect job on their own and they also do a terrific job as a whole. The changes and transition in the song are very smooth and each section is very unique.

If Learning to Live is your least controversial choice, then it's probably not A Change of Seasons. Octavarium is probably out too.

Maybe Outcry?

Please don't be ACOS. It's bad enough ranking LTL as highly as 2.  :-X

Nekov

:lol. Why do you hate the songs people like the most Blob? Are you some kind of DT hipster?

To me all prog fans are hipsters, so I'm actually just "normal". :P

Seriously though, it likely comes from not being a prog fan at all, aside from DT. I generally don't like the stuff that is *just* proggy, like ACOS, LTL etc because that's not the element I like DT for, and I find it very lacking compared to their other stuff that's either more ballady, or heavy, or melodic.

I was thinking about teasing you with number one but let's just move to the point

1 - Blind Faith

Isn't it time we care and lose the hate understand our fears - This song is not only my favorite DT song, I have yet to find a song that I like so much as this one for such an extended period of time. It was not love at first sight, it actually took me a while to truly enjoy what goes on in this song. There are so many things to mention, like that little part that comes between the second chorus and the instrumental section where JP does this fun reef that is complemented by James' singing and a great support is provided by the rest of the band. Jordan does a great job overall providing both background support and great keyboard lines. Needles to say the instrumental section is his, with those 3 solos which are very different from one another making it stay super fresh all the time. This song also contains my favorite MP drumming which he performs during the second keyboard solo, I just find it amazing. And of course I have to mention DAT unison which I dare say everyone here who likes DT enjoys a lot because it is perfect. I've read some critics to the chorus on this song and I have to agree that it is the weakest part of the song however I don't think it's meant to be the main thing in this song because it actually serves a very different purpose which is to provide a good connection between the different sections of the song. Even the last one where it sets the table for the song to go back to the calm where it all started.

 Excellent choice.

The pre-chorus/chorus actually did initially stop me getting into this song, and it was the last song on SDOIT I appreciated, but it's such an amazing song.

CHEESE STICKS EVERY DAY

Great #1 pick and a nice list overall! :tup But then again, I could never call a list that includes TOWHTSTS bad!

Cedar redaC

Not what I guessed, but definitely a worthy choice. I really dig the stereo effects on the guitar during the second verse. The unison is straight up cool, and the whole song has an atmosphere that fits extremely well on the album, especially after The Glass Prison.

Scorpion

Awesome song! Definitely worthy of the spot, it's not quite my favourite, but it's my favourite off of my favourite DT album, so that counts for something.

All in all, a great list. I wouldn't agree with every pick, but it was a fun read. :tup

DebraKadabra

Thank Satan it wasn't ACOS.  Very nice choice for #1. :tup
