Anyone know if any of the guys are hitting the NAMM show this year?

I met JP and JR today at NAMM as well! I got to thank them for changing my life and such. It was awesome. Both extremely nice. Also got my ADTOE boxed set signed by them. And right as I was walking away from JR, I turned and said "Oh, and Jordan, I'll see you.... on the road" and he said "I'll see YOU on the road". It was magical. hahaha.

Damn, I was going to do the same thing when and if I were to met him. Now I will need to think to something original  :(

Thanks to our dear DreamerTV, who is as per usual too lazy to post what he founds, a very cool video of JR demonstrating the new Ivory II piano synthetizer (heresy alert on, I'm not a musian, so I may get something wrong).

It would be fantastic if some of the piano guys stopped by to comment the sound of this new piano patch, which I feel is slightly different that what we were used to, with Ivory I.

By the way, starting from minute one or two Jordan performs a much flourished version of Hollow Years in there ;)

And finally, a brief but tasty audience video of JR playing something symphonic. I have no idea of what it is, but it sounds great!

Okay, I love the guy in the left corner of the video who is obviously there for something else but stands and watches for like a minute or so. :)

Sounds very lovely. And I am all for more piano and less crazy synth, though I don't mind crazy synth in itself, but Jordan on a piano is quite something. Even when he "overdoes" it. Like, I came out of this video wishing I could play an instrument :)

I agree. While ADTOE was a step in the right direction for the piano, I still think it would be great to have more of it in the next release. Piano breakdowns like the one in OTBOA or BAI are always welcomed, and even piano pre-verse sections as in Outcry act as a breathing valve for the listeners without sounding out of place in the context of the song.

Agreed completely - there can never be too much piano! As a keyboard player myself I love the sound of piano and prefer playing it to a basic synth. Although the possibilities of digital keyboards are wide, nothing can beat the good ol' piano IMO.

Can any of the tech guys explain us mortals what are the consequences of his reverting to the Triaxis instead of the Mark V?

I am not a tech guy at all. All I know is that he used the Triaxis on A Change Of Seasons, Falling Into Infinity, and Scenes From a Memory. Seems like he is going back for the old "sound".

" Yes Dave ? "

" I'll see YOU........in the publicity photographs for the upcoming twelfth Dream Theater album, the music videos and in the CD booklet and quite possibly on Twitter where you will no doubt be uploading some more improvs and instagram photos ! "

If the album sounds even remotely similar to SFAM or FII in any way, I would be happy.

I just thought it was very interesting considering how JP is pretty much the poster boy for Mesa's Mark V. I literally said "So, you using the new JP 13 and the Mark V's?" and he said "No actually I'm back to the Triaxis."

I said "wow really?"
He said "yeah it just has that sound you know?"

I was pretty surprised to say the least.

And I'm pretty sure he started using the Triaxis on Awake. I could be wrong though.

I'm not lazy, it's just that i'm playing Ruzzle almost all day long... :D
And now that i read it from someone else, i must say that i've one of the most awful nickname in history. (not awful as the ruzzle one, but that was intentional)

I don't know much about all the different Mesa's .

Can someone please tell me what the Triaxis is ?

Is it just a rack mount ? Which other album did he use it on ?

Cheers ! :)

Mesa boogie triaxis is a tube pre-amp which emulate some of the sounds from MKI, MKIIC+, MKIII and MKIV (and some others mesa sounds). It's purpose is to have a multiple range of amps sounds without having more than one amp.

WOW! That was a great performance! Thanks for posting that! Looks like Jordan and Rod had a TON of fun learning/playing that piece. Does anyone know if JR played anything else or was that it? Not that playing "Tarkus" (especially HIS cover) is nothing, but just curious if he did any more.

No problem!  :) I 'm not sure if they did any more together on that occasion though.
