As the topic says my question is which DT song with vocals has the longest instrumental intro in relation to the length of the whole song. Octavarium for example is 24 minutes long and the vocals begin at 5.31 which means that approximately 23% of the song have passed before the vocals begin.

Oh yeah, I was thinking about that one since like half the song consists of the intro but I see part 1 and 2 as a unified song and in that case I don't think it has the longest intro.

The Best of Times?

13:09 = 789 seconds
Vocals start at 3:53 (233)

233/789 = ~29.5%

Wait for sleep

The whole song is an intro to Learning to live

Wouldn't that mean that Erotomania is an even longer intro? ;)

Yeah that might be it, I actually thought that it would be one of the shorter songs.

True! It would make up a third of "A Mind Beside Itself" - exactly 33% of the suite!

Regression: if you don't count the spoken words.

Vocals kick in at 1:05, with a length of only 2:07 that makes ~51.1%

The beginning of Regression does not have an instrumental intro, as stated in the OP, so that song doesn't count.  If JLB had done the spoken word, we would be counting them as vocals (spoken ones, granted), so just because someone else did them doesn't mean they don't count as vocals.

Well I see where you're coming from, and you are kind of right, but I see that spoken word part more as a sample, something like the sample in the beginning of Take The Time where you have a spoken word section before the "real" vocals begin.

ItPoE Part 1 was the first thing that came to my mind as well.

ADToE has a few long intros. OtBoA, LNF and BitS all seem to be around 26-29%.

What about The Count Of Tuscany? I don't know the exact times but isn't the intro like 5 minutes, and the song itself is under 20 minutes. The live version of Octavarium has an even longer intro. Also, The Glass Prison, Home, The Best of Times, and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence have some pretty long intros in relation to their length.

I also thought about ITPOE, but I also consider it one song.

The intro in Vacant takes up approximately 22% of the song, so Vacant has a relatively long intro.

SomeoneLikeHim

I woder which song has the least vocals relative to length. Metropolis?

What's the shortest intro? The Silent Man has like half a measure before James comes in; are there any other DT songs that have vocals right from the start?

 Of course!

The Letter M

The "Take Away My Pain" Demo version begins with vocals BEFORE the instruments come in (for 2 beats - "I was"), so technically it has a NEGATIVE intro.

Fatal Tragedy starts off with vocals, too, although there is like one piano chord or something right before JLB starts singing.

I always felt this was a mis-indexing on the tracks between "Through My Words" and "Fatal Tragedy". For me, the latter always begins when the guitar comes in, and LSFNY tracks the songs this way, but the lyrics in the booklet state otherwise...so... who knows.
