However, November is close enough to Christmas, that folks always find a little extra cash and justify a purchase they would not normally make or a purchase for gift giving.

When OSI planned to release an album in Oct/Nov of 2011, Metal Blade pushed it back to March 2013 and I seem to recall the band or label explaining that it was because they were releasing the album too close to Christmas and sales are usually lower around that time of year.  I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see this DVD until 2014, despite the fact that they have already announced a Nov. 2013 release.

I don't get a clue... I mean, it's music not ice cream.

And anyway why then so many bands and artists make special CDs for Christmas?

I believe this has more to do with projected sales than anything else - and that does not bother me, I hope they make millions.  There probably were tech issues that delayed the original release date, but that put the DVD release within too close a window with the CD release.  If the release of the DVD were pushed too close to the release of the CD, both would probably take a hit in sales.  However, November is close enough to Christmas, that folks always find a little extra cash and justify a purchase they would not normally make or a purchase for gift giving.

Again, this is DT's livelihood, they should make their decisions based on revenue first but being careful not to fully alienate a loyal fanbase.
Well said, I fully agree.

Making decisions on their revenue is the same thing as being good to their fan base- how do you think they've gotten this far?? You can't have one without the other, so we're in luck! Aahh the beauties of capitalism!

Directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

So if you buy this quote from the facebook link:
"It will be abundantly clear why the extra time was needed come November"

Which bit of speculation makes the most sense - (fast forward to Nov.)  Now that the DVD is out,  we are sure that it is abundantly clear to you that:

  • we ran into a snag when the prototype Blurays were burned
  • we had to give you an overdubbed album instead of a live one
  • this had more to do with projected sales than anything else
  • we have something special here and the Grammys are just around the corner
  • the extra documentary and other content was worth the wait
  • this was directed by M. Night Shyamalan

Then we can start speculating on the twist ending..... JP is in fact NOT a bear

The Trooper

The one thing I am having a tuff time understanding (and has me a bit worried), is that OTE posted on FB that they had a complete finished copy and it was awesome/great, etc. THEN, somehwhere after that someone, wether it be the band, OTE, whomever, made a decision that, hey something is wrong here with this "great" product. Hence having to go back and "redo" audio on the great product.

Just sayin.

Labrie1984

I'm buying the bluray because DT is my favourite band but....I don't want a completely overdubbed version! I wouldn't understand it because they all have sounded great on this tour.

philmcson

I don't really know what the difference in sales between a May and a November release should be?! In May, people could say "Well, going on vacation soon, so no money for DVDs left" while in November they could buy more important xmas gifts than DVDs.... OK, during summer and January less records are released, based on recent release calendars.... but if things were so simple, bands would release records only during Valentine's day and Xmas, wouldn't they?!

Why does Black Sabbath release their long-awaited record in June?   ;D

Jinx

Yeah I can see it ending up being a total mess, with album soundtracks tacked onto the footage. I just hope it all works out :/

cramx3

Maybe the problem with the audio is the reason the trailer features the album track, not the live track from the CD?

Setlist Scotty

If in fact it's an audio issue, I wonder if it's JP second guessing what was supposed to be the final mix, whether the stereo or surround sound mix. Remember that he is the guy more focused on the sonic qualities of each album and was the one that second guessed the mix of SFaM after David Botrill had completed the mixes. I gotta wonder if something similar happened here, perhaps with both mixes. That would require more time to redo, especially since they're in the middle of working on the new album. And it wouldn't surprise me if they opted to push the release date back a little because of the release of the new studio album as everyone has been speculating.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

What if the drums were mixed too low?

Then they mix them higher up. With this kind of quality live album they record every track separate, just to be able to edit everything.
Like I said, if there was some sort of noise in the system, or the tracks were gained to high and distort, then you have a problem.
