Well, of course there is a cap to the level of hype a fan can deliver, and the weight has pretty much shifted to DTDT for everyone, including me. But if they nail the promotional campaign for the DVD, starting for instance two weeks after the CD is out, I think LALP could benefit from the effects of the long wave of the excitement for the new album.

If the new album is good people will feel the need for more DT and even though LALP is not really new music it is the first think they will stick to, and if the album is unortunately not so good (god forbid!) fans will see LALP as a way to delve back into the past to forget the let-down!

MoraWintersoul

Yeah, you know what? EVERY TIME a good new album from a band I like comes out, when I finish listening, I say "damn I can't wait for the next one." And in this case, the next new thing from DT comes just two months after! Not to mention the fact it will get us pumped up for the next tour, both us who haven't seen DT on the previous tour (or ever) and those who wanna reminisce on it.

Marco remembers we talked of DVD being pushed back further from May as a nightmare scenario, but really, it has its perks.

wasteland

Indeed I do! Remember that small commotion that happened when people were just assuming out of nowhere that the DVD was to roll for Christmas 2012?  :D

MoraWintersoul

Oh god, I would have had hundreds of gifs of the DVD in my folder already :-\

Jinx

I was thinking the other day, what if it released in Nov and it turned out they had managed to secure the rights to still have the Inception theme on the intro?

Then I got onto thinking what on earth they would replace it with on the DVD instead?

Metropolis1928

Jinx, what a coincidence, I came here to post one crazy theory I thought a while ago about what you say.

Since it has been stated that the first song of DT12 is going to be "their new live movie intro" (or something like that), the one they're going to use as an intro tape... what if the delay of the DVD has to do with False Awakening Suite replacing Dream Is Collapsing? And, of course, they had to delay the DVD after the new album, because that song should appear first on the album.

Is that too crazy?

wasteland

It isn't entirely impossible, but I'm not sure it's the best choice. It would be kind of weird and less than informed people would start making fould assumptions on FAS :D

Well, if they really want that song to become their "intro tape" I don't see it as a bad choice. After DT12 comes out, that song IS the intro tape. I see it as a retcon thing, more in the way of "this is what you're going to see when you come to see in 2 months", because that's another thing. The next batch of shows will be closer in time than the last show of the ADTOE tour... If they see the new DVD as a way to promote their new tour too, I don't see it that bad.

It would be weirder if they re-released Budokan with that intro tape... ;D

It wouldn't be weirder.  It would be the same amount of weird.  Which is a lot.

Well, it's already been stated by OTE that LALP won't have Dream Is Collapsing, and that it will have instead some original song composed for the ocasion (I haven't found the exact quote, but I think it's well known). So, if they can't have the real intro tape, and they have to do a new one, why don't they use the new one that the band has composed?

And I wouldn't compare the madness that would be retconning an official live release from when Portnoy was still in the band with doing this with a DVD hasn't been released yet and that already has the problem of the intro.

But again, we'll see. I would certainly prefer this option over a random song that OTE puts in there (even though I haven't listened to FAS yet).

I read that they did indeed remove DIC, but they replaced it with an already-existing DT track, not a new one. Someone confirm this?

MoraWintersoul

Especially since ADTOE in full will be on the DVD+bonus stuff so hearing the same thing twice might be odd.

wasteland

Raw Dog for the show opening.

You heard it here first, people :2metal:

?

If that actually happened I would give DT an award for the most successful way to alienate potential watchers :lol

I've yet to hear this track so that'd be interesting.

"John Petrucci (gitarist): "This is, without a doubt, the closest a viewer at home will come to experiencing a live Dream Theater concert. Between the hi-def and 3D video, the huge audio mix and the documentary-style behind-the-scenes footage, you are truly transported to the arena and completely immersed in the entire live experience.""

Um.... what? Am I going to have the option to wear 3D glasses for this?

Mosh

Wonder if it will be played in more theaters then before the release. Definitely starting to become a trend with concert DVDs.

Should it be performed near my place I would totally spend an additional 10€ to attend the theater premiere!  :o

?

Too bad there probably won't be an event like that in Finland :mehlin

Haha, I asked the same question back when this little tidbit was posted on a OTE youtube video. He meant the brand new Mativision app for the show (where you can control the camera using a program on PC).

Jinx

But I thought that Mativision thingy was only on 6:00??

September? 3 days before the release of Dream Theater? That's quite a move.

Makes sense, good way to build hype for the new album. I could see the slogans now; Make September Dream Theater Month!

Onno

Jinx

So theyre handing out copies of LALP already?? Wonder who else has already seen it  :\

That doesn't make sense honestly. DT12 and LALP are completey unrelated and are being released by different companies.

Huh, yeah DT12 can be hyped in many other ways, I guess LaLP is one way they could hype the new record, but it seems odd for the theater to be showing it so far before the release date in November ? Doesn't it?

Shadow2222

Not really when you think about it. You can't run out and buy Man of Steel or Star Trek: Into Darkness even though they have been out at the theater for awhile now.

They could very well still be working on the bonus features, but it sounds like the main concert is completely done.

Very true! I know that's how typical movie release schedules work, but I wasn't sure if concert movie releases typically worked differently, especially since, at least to the best of my knowledge, this won't be shown around the world in every theater in every town like Man of Steel and Star Trek were.

Also valid points. I wish it would be shown at every theater though! I'm sure I'm out of luck in the USA.

Yeah ditto, I'm in the USA as well, and I'm guessing we are out of luck.  You never know though, could be surprised!
