Just putting this out there... if Brookvale release this again in a month, but gatefold, I am boycotting the company and never buying anything they do again :P

I think that's a bit much. I really think it's a licensing issue. The orginal pressing was in done in Europe. I think because of this, Brookvale was under so many restrictions for the USA pressings. Since the original pressing & licensing rights reside in Europe, I'm sure they had a lot less of a hassle for European Only Pressings. Cut them some slack ... they are doing us DT fans a HUGH favor .. My 2 cents

Just seeing this now... will the Images vinyl have full inner sleeves? I have to say that was my one disappointment with the Scenes vinyl. Wonderful sound and looked great from the outside, but then to have the LPs themselves in the plain white sleeves was a letdown, especially at the price. I just ordered several 2LP pieces for an average of $20 shipped and they'll likely come with it. Here I'd be paying $38 shipped and would really expect that.

(Edit: And I realize the colored and limited edition make it pricier, but let's offset that with the fact that this is after all a re-issue.)

The re-presses meaning any album that was already released on the format, Since we are licensing these from their original label, it is a bit trickier in terms of what we can and cant do with the artwork. Artwork wise , the albums already pressed are going to be the same as the original release(meaning if it was a non-gatefold jacket originally than it will be similar) but the lps all be 2xlp or more and all 180 gram and remastered specifically for vinyl.

That being said, the I&W does not have a gatefold jacket as we were not able to get approval by the label for it for some reason, but all the albums that have not been pressed on vinyl before should have awesome packaging and all be gatefold jackets. For Six degrees we are thinking of doing a tri-fold jacket since it will be a 3xlp set but havent decided on the details yet.

Perpetual Change

Yeah, OK. That doesn't explain why it can be gatefold in Europe.

TheGreatPretender

I'm really curious about how they're going to divide the actual Six Degrees suite.

Well, until there's some sort of official word, we don't even know if that white vinyl pressing is actually happening.
It may also just be a typo or error, and not actually a gatefold.

I will say, if everything on that page is legit, it would have been nice for Brookvale to mention it when they were taking pre-orders for the other versions, to make people aware of the option.
I still would have gone for the swirl version because of the price, but yeah, a heads up from them would have been nice.

The Letter M

GATE-FOLD?!?  >:( :censored

Had I known there'd be a Gate-Fold version, I'd have sprung for THAT instead! Especially if it came with the lyrics printed on the inside, etc. etc.

Hopefully some light will be shed on this really soon!

-Marc.

Perpetual Change

Doubt it! Those guys haven't been around since they finished taking pre-orders  :P

Prog Snob

I just received mine in the mail - #483.  And yes, the cover art looks kind of...eh.

Meatrose

<-- Confused right now.

Well, I ordered the white edition as well. Guess I can alternate between that and the red & gold swirl depending on which mood I'm in.  :justjen

WTF I thought it was fake!!  :lol

Perhaps it is, I wouldn't exactly be surprised if it turned out I just threw 40£ on some sort of scam. All that's left for me to do is play the waiting game.  :corn

The white pressing will be the same jacket as the re-issue that just came out. I tried to push the label to let us do gatefold all along but due to legal reasons and lack of artwork, they would not allow us to.

I said this prior in the thread but ALL ALBUMS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN pressed before will have gatefold jacket and for those which have been pressed in a single lp jacket, will be re-issued as such but with remastered audio like the prior two releases. Hope everyone who ordered is happy with the re-issue

Perpetual Change

I'm happy with it, I just got pissed when I saw them selling a "gatefold" one.

Dream Theater: Blurry Images And No Words
;)

The original artwork is no longer available on the older releases and we did all we could to work it out and make them look good. The printer ensured us that they would not be blurry and gave us proofs which looked a bit better than the final product. Honestly I am a bit let down by the overall jacket quality on the release and we will be likely going with a new printer next time so for those who feel the same i apologize. It was very difficult given what we had from the label and the permissions that the contract allowed us to use but the music itself sound way better than the original master in my opinion and the sound is what should matter.

I don't know if this is related or not and it still doesn't explain why, but when Atlantic released the Rush Atlantic Remasters (2004?) the artwork and liners were cheap reproductions of the original CDs. (although there was a sonic improvement)

Dream Theater at that time was under the same label umbrella.

Of course this doesn't explain why when Mobile Fidelity released Permanent Waves (2009) with badly reproduced art, but that was a different label.

Did record labels purge all of their old art work in a cost cutting measure? Who knows?

But that was the first thing I thought of after hearing about art that was a "cheap reproduction."

Fiery Winds

Delivered today at my folks house, will update later with pressing# after picking it up.  Then listening to the full album!

In regards to the numbering. We again could not get them to send us them in order so it is totally random and not based upon when you placed the order or your name.

We do know that 1-500 is the colored variant and 501-2000 is the black variant though.

Also the black has a promo sticker on the outside while the colored variant does not

Also for those interested, we have a couple of the test presses left for purchase so pm if interested

The jacket design is finalized and being printed this week. They are being sent to me this weekend to be assembled with the actual lp's and then will be shipping

Below are some pictures of the jacket mid printing process , they are limited to 24 total copies but only 10 are available to the public. The rest went to the band, label, management etc...

For the Awake vinyl: clear vinyl with metallic foil in the middle, like a mirror.  Don't know if that could be done, but I bet it would be a first.

Perpetual Change

Is that the slips the disc would have gone in if you could have done gatefold?

I'm definitely happy with my I&W swirl vinyl, and can't wait for the next album reissue.

Sorry, my post probably sounded more rude than I meant it. I was just having some fun with the album title. Honestly I am a bit disappointed with the art as I often frame my album covers, but I understand there was not a lot you could do about it. Is there any hope of getting the original art for any of the future releases? I wonder if it would be possible to contact Storm Thorgerson directly about the FII art. I can't imagine his original work is lost forever.

What about taking a scan of one of the album flats, or some oversize promo posters? I don't know anything about printing so maybe those options would look worse.

BTW mine arrived last week, #256.

Do the test pressings sound normal? And what woul the cost be?

Test presses sound the same as the normal release but are white label promos with screen printed jackets

We tried that and it is not so simple as most flats have years or finger prints and dust on them which are next to impossible to fully edit out. Not like these promos have been made recently.

Anyway, for the next releases we are told that the file quality should be a bit better and regardless we plan to use a different printer for the jackets from now on regardless

I just wanted to chime in and thank you for all the effort that's been put in place in releasing this stuff. DT Fans are a picky bunch (myself included) but your efforts are highly appreciated.

I actually have a full collection of all DT album flats that have been made available, as well as multiple copies of all of the albums that have been released on vinyl, so if you're looking for vinyl sized artwork source material in the future just let me know.  I live in Huntington so it would be pretty easy for me to just bring the stuff down to Looney Tunes so you could see if its useful.  Most of my flats are in pretty darn good condition.

I was going to PM, but the inbox is full.
I'd be interested in one of those test pressings if any are still available. I'm just wondering about price and cost of shipping to Halifax, Canada.
