That's cool, man. You're entitled to your opinion. It's when you say that people who like more recent DT albums aren't "real fans", it bothers me somewhat.

@Lucien: Yeah, they're like prog fans, only worse. I'd remove those links, though. I think officially released material can't be linked to.  Also, I can't judge your username. Mine's "Maniacalmaniac".

Done.

Also in that first link there was a lot of sexism in the comments

 That makes me angry.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

Yeah, and that guy probably wonders why more girls aren't into metal. :zeltar:

Yeah!   >:(  Fan since Images and SC is one of my favorite DT albums.

Dont`t worry, brother.

Everybody here thinks DT12 can be a landmark album, and that`s the important thing.

Yeah, I mean, I don't have a problem with someone disliking their new albums. I really like them, but not everyone has to agree with me. What I don't like is when someone says that another person is less of fan simply because their tastes are different. ( and yes, I realize this is pretty common in metal, and probably in music overall)

Or maybe I just feel like ranting. It can be pretty fun

Everything certainly indicates that it will be a great album.

On a completely different note, you can pre-order Impermanent Resonance on Amazon now!

https://www.amazon.com/Impermanent-Resonance-James-Labrie/dp/B00DCRE7M0

Shadow Ninja 2.0

I'll probably wait until it's released. Amazon pre-orders have been unkind to me in the past.

Luigi

I think DT12 will be very SFAM-SDOIT oriented.

Same here. I preordered something once, expecting it to show up on release day. It showed up a week later. That's when I realized they never ship until release day. You're better off waiting and going to a brick & mortar.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

Devin Townsend's Epicloud didn't arrive at my place of residence until about month past release date. It's partially my fault for always going for the free shipping, but come on.

I would be quite pleased with that meld....

GasparXR

I would rather DT12 be DT12 oriented.

With all respect, only the old school minded are the real DT fans.

With all respect, this is a complete load of shit.

This. I consider myself a "real" fan because I love the band and the music that they make, not because of my mindset. That's like saying people who don't like the NES aren't "real" video game fans.

Yes. I should have elaborated more in that post, but I want an album that has it's own identity. Every album so far pretty much does, but I wouldn't want them to just try to create the same vibe from an already-written album. If parts of it remind of other albums, that's perfectly fine of course! I just want it to stand out on its own.

Yeah, gotta agree with the blobster here. I mean, define "real fan" anyways. Any attempt to judge a certain amount of "fandom" is just an inadequate excuse for a pissing contest.

Just listen to the music man, stop trying to quantify it.

Mosh

I want a SDOIT oriented album not in terms of sound, but in terms of experimentation. Every song being its own unique piece and every song filled with DT taking the music to new heights, while still maintaining their core sound.

Lucien

From Mike Mangini:

"Hope you like the general, short clips about some of my gear choices lately. I'm really so grateful to all my supporting companies. Our engineer, Rich, would be the one to get into details about the mic'ing in the future as I just wanted to give a general 'how do you do' about using my Shure stuff, but I really am so happy to have him, my tech Eric's help choosing tunings etc., Maddi's in working the kit and head changes and also Petrucci's take on it all in order to get the killer drum sound you'll hear on the next record."

:hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

Mosh

Well if Mangini says so.  :metal

Glad to see that they are concerning themselves with the drum

on this next album.

Mike's awesome. Can't wait to hear his drums on the album.

I really want to hear him killing in DT12. He can`t be buried in the mix again. That`s a crime.

Chris Collins got pissed at me and told me to go and play with my Transformers in a discussion thread for his solo career. Is that close enough? :lol

To me is very simple.

The 90`s was the best DT musical period, and they extended that to SDOIT (their last completely satisfying work -2.001-).

Every album from that date, was a little bit more dissapointing than the previous, with SC as a clear low point and BC&SL as a bottom, thanks to that "balls" theory of Portnoy.

With ADTOE (a very safe album -it was the purpose-) they recovered a lot of musical seriousness.

And now, I have a huge expectation for DT12, basically for the presence of Mangini in the creative process (adding Richard Chycki and Eren Başbuğ).

If you don`t understand, isn`t my problem, and I couldn`t care less.

Declaring any art as better or worse, matter of factly, is pointless. Taste lives in the soul of every individual. Different eyes see
different things and different hearts beat on different strings.
