I think it would be hilarious if someone had never heard Back in Black and thought that was Dream Theater for awhile

In which case, it's lucky they got a misprint, since that album should be mandatory.
Either way, they're getting a killer album! :metal

Very nice rare piece.

MrBoom_shack-a-lack

Haha that's amazing! I wonder if some AC/DC fan got the opposite with a 92' print of Back In Black?  :lol

DebraKadabra

You know, for as much legend that has in the DT collectors lore (mostly from funky :jets: ) you would think that there were more copies of that.  Awesome that you have one though!

aka "Hoarders:  The DT Edition" :jets: :jets:

Do you have a vinyl copy for I&W or Awake?

Yup.  Three different versions of I&W actually, and one of Awake.

TAC

Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

TAC

I see Rich Wilson in the thread. You should get ZDT, Franz, and Paul together. Their collections would look awesome captured in a "coffee table" type book. I know I would buy one!

ZKX-2099

Save it. Maybe you can donate it to the R&R HOF in 70 years when they induct DT.

Madman Shepherd

I wonder how many copies of the Images/Back in Black album.  I'm sure there werent a lot to begin with but I wonder how many people heard that and took it back to the store where it was returned to the record company to be destroyed.

:eek And I thought that i was cool with my vinyl copy of I&W.

wasteland

Very cool, Zep! If there existed a misprinted copy of ADTOE with Justin Bieber inside, would you still pay to get it?

If that existed, I hope the world ends by the end of today.

Funky has actually sold off a good portion of his collection.  But all the good stuff was bought by either me or Franz, so it didn't go very far :P

Well... in fairness, I've been obsessively collecting since around '97 or '98, so I've had lots of time to get my hands on this stuff.  It's a long process that requires a lot of dedication.

I think they should just make a version of ACOS with a Bieber song stuck somewhere in the covers medley.

Mladen

Wow, what an interesting read so far! The fuck-up with Back in black is hilarious, I hope somebody got fired for that.  :lol As for the Majesty tape, what can be said? You sure are lucky to be the owner of the only existing copy of that tape.  :tup

Awww man, this is thread is just awesome. I've always wanted to be a collector of something but most of them are expensive to do and with no money, not possible. I will enjoying following this.

jingle.boy

As soon as the CD player (25-changer I assume?  Awesome!) said 42 minutes, I knew something was amiss.

Cool story bro.

50-disc changer actually.  (Well, 50+1, so 51).  It's pretty unnecessary, but it's from like 15 years ago when those things were all the rage.

ITEM #3 - AWAKE - THE INTERACTIVE GUIDE

Outer package:

Disc:

Info Sheet:

Disc in package:

This piece isn't particularly rare, but I've always thought it was one of the cooler and more interesting promo items from DT's earlier days.  The disc shown here is the Windows version.  There is also a Mac version out there - I believe they may have originally both come in the same package, although I'm not certain about that.  Because it's so old (and because it's been over 10 years since I've owned a computer with a disc drive), I've never actually run the program, but from what I've read about it, it contains promo pictures, audio samples, biography, band trivia and other info.  It's essentially an extremely early and primitive digital press kit.  Note also that the insert references the launching of the first ever Dream Theater official website "available via the Internet and Mosaic software".  They even used it to set up "live online conferences" with the band.  One of these days if I get my hands on a disc drive I think I'm gonna give this a spin and see what's on there.

Implode

That's really cool too! I'd love to see what on the disc.

The Presence of Frenemies

I'd love to see what those online conferences were like.

Dude, awesome collection, I will be totally following this.

If I remember correctly, you have an alarm clock or something like that promoting Awake, right?

Yup.  That should make an appearance in here somewhere down the line.

Whoa, thanks for posting that. I hadn't seen that before. :tup

I didn't know JR was the keyboard wizard even back then. You learn something new every day. :rudess:

I knew his instructional DVD from pre-DT was "Keyboard Wizardry," so he was definitely using that early on.

wasteland

Wow! The chat was very cool! I chuckled at Myung saying "heavy aggressive stuff" and like blob I was impressed that back in 1994 JR was already the keyboard wizard! Also, some bits of slightly redundant KM information that Milena will nonetheless internalize and treat like a relic! :)

Also, the flobby drive is unreal  :o

Oh, I didn't know about that one. I have the Keyboard Madness one, where he shows a bunch of DT stuff, but I didn't realize there were any others before that.
A lot of neat DT info in this thread. :tup

Also, gotta love this sentence straight out of the Paleozoic:

QuoteThe Site has been created on the World-Wide Web (available via the Internet ....)

It's only been 18 years people. And yet it looks like an age ago....

MoraWintersoul

^ yeah, that part is incredible. I like the fact I live in the era where I can access everything the band has said and done in a way that is a part of my mental grammar, and in a way that doesn't have to be explained :lol
