New to DT, but seems like everytime I wear one of my Rush Tshirts in public, someone comes up to me and lets me know when they saw them last, etc.  My wife thinks it is pretty funny this happens.  Just wondering if you get comments on your DT T-Shirts.

Going to order me a T-shirt, especially since I am not sure if and when I can see this band.  Seems like they play small to medium sized venues unless on tour with a more recognizable group.

Please come to Tennessee! :metal

Occasionally - but, yes!

The most surprising one was when I was wandering around a supermarket, and a complete stranger - I'd say mid-fifties - hopped out of nowhere and barked some words at me. As I was caught off guard, I heard them instead as "GURN TURRBLIN MOOSIFF." I sort of flapped about for five seconds, decoding the sound into actual words, and eventually came to the conclusion, given he was pointing at my t-shirt, that he'd probably said "good taste in music." I murmured something, and made sure to wave whenever our trolleys passed for the rest of the day.

On top of that, I seem to recall a conversation with some girl in a nightclub that went along the lines of --

"Is that a Dream Theater shirt?"
"Yeah!"
"Are you wearing it, like, ironically?"
"...No, why?"
"Okay then."

If I didn't find it so funny I'd probably have been quite insulted.

EDIT: Aha! One Google later... found it!

Quote"So, why are you wearing a Dream Theater shirt?"
"I like Dream Theater. They're well good."
"So you're not wearing it ironically or anything then?"
"...No?"

There we go, that's it, pretty much word for word. She was striking up a genuine conversation until she discovered I sincerely liked Dream Theater. It was a while ago, now, and I was fairly drunk at the time, but I seem to remember she just wandered off after that. Only bit of genuine negativity I've ever encountered!

Perpetual Change

I wore an Iron Maiden shirt to Renaissance Fair once, and got like a dozeon compliments on it.

I don't wear band shirts anymore. However many years ago I was wearing a DT shirt and some Tool fans started yelling at me.....dunno.

Another time I was in Chicago the day after seeing DT, was wearing a DT shirt. Saw across the street another guy in a DT shirt and we walked past each other and gave each other a high five without saying a word.

I've never gotten comments on a Dream Theater t-shirt.  Well, except a clerk at FYE asking me if I knew they had a new album out.  But I don't think he was a fan, just a salesman.

Dr. DTVT

I've lived in the South for since 2003 so the only person who ever commented on a DT shirt was Ryan  :lol

Another_Won

I was wearing the 25th anniversary shirt and I had someone comment on the little girl on the front.  I laughed and said check out he back.  Specifically, the cover of WDaDU.

DebraKadabra

I really only get comments on the DT shirts I wear from my SO.

When I was in New York a few months ago me and my girlfriend went to see a screening of The Room and there was a guy with a DT shirt and someone behind us saw it and yelled something about it. We ended up talking in the subway after and he was at the first show she went to. I didn't make it to that one though.

I was eating at a little cafe in Santa Barbara before seeing Primus + Wolfmother at the Santa Barbara Bowl... Was wearing my 25th anniversary shirt... and a dude comes up to me and asked me if I had seen them with Iron Maiden (which I just had...) and said something along the lines of  "DT kicks ass" and continued on with his business

I don't wear band t-shirts outside in ordinary days I find it a bit childish anymore but I used to wear when I was 12-16. But I still wear them if I go to the their concert but only there.

So when I go to the concerts with the band t-shirts I don't get any comments, positive or negative. I guess it's found natural to wear.

DebraKadabra

If wearing rock shirts is childish, I ain't never gonna grow up. :metal

The only time I have ever really seen someone wear a DT shirt outside of a concert was at a subway on campus. I commented on the guys' shirt while he was eating and we both talked about DT until we were both done eating.

I don't think anyone has commented on my shirts, though.

I was wearing my DT t-shirt at a Deftones gig a couple of years back. When I was queueing up to get my jacket at the end of the show, a guy noticed my shirt and said "cool shirt man!" or "nice taste dude!" or something.  :metal

I seem to recall getting a comment on my Opeth t-shirt in a bar/club after another gig, but I was probably too drunk at the time to remember it properly now  :lol
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Back in my college days a super hot girl walked right up to me in the cafeteria and out of nowhere asked "can I touch you?  You are wearing a Dream Theater t-shirt."  I took her to her first Dream Theater show later that month in Providence.  After the show, Derek Sherinian asked her out on a date and they traded phone numbers.  No joke.

Dublagent66

I have gotten comments in the past and they've all been good.  Just last week, me and a friend went to go check out a Death Angel 25 year reunion show.  He showed up at my house to pick me up with the same Symphony X shirt that I had on.  So, since he couldn't change his shirt, I changed mine and put on a DT shirt that I got last December on the ADTOE tour.

Later at the show, we ran into a guy that we knew who was at the Symphony X show we went to last year and told him I had to change my shirt.  He said, "that's alright, you got the DT shirt on, cool!"

I very rarely have gotten comments on DT shirts, though one time I did and it was fairly awesome...

So for a long while I made it a point of buying a shirt from every concert I went to, and since I've seen DT at least 2x as much as any other band, a good amount of my band t shirts used to be DT shirts. I was in college, at a meeting at the very beginning of the year, and a guy in my year came up to me afterwards and introduced himself. It turns out he had sat behind me the previous spring in an economics class, and after seeing me wearing Dream Theater shirts so often, he felt compelled to check them out over the summer, and they became his new favorite band. We spent five minutes talking about what albums he had listened to so far, and which others he should make a priority of getting. I never saw him again. Still though, I turned a stranger into a DT fan through sheer force of will :lol :hat

This.

When I used to wear band shirts, I would get people complimenting my DT shirt. Once in Camp Pendleton, I wore my Symphony X shirt (the Paradise Lost one actually looks pretty cool) and a guy was like "Yeahhh RIGHT ON". So that was cool.

One time I was walking down the street and I saw a guy who I knew. He saw my shirt and said "You listen to Dream Theater? They're pretty heavy." That's about it.

nightmare_cinema

I don't own a Dream Theater t shirt and have never gotten comments on my Porcupine Tree ones... it's hard to get decent girls t shirts for bands I'm into. Wondering if I'll ever get any comments on my new tattoo, though...

jeans & band t shirt is the sexiest outfit a guy can wear to me, I have on a couple of occasions gone and started conversations with people in Dream Theater t shirts.

You're lucky you can wear girl shirts, gal - I have problems fitting one boob in a girl shirt, let alone the rest of my torso.

Yeah, that would make my day if somebody comes to ask something about the band.  I doubt it's never gonna happen...

I never got any comments on my old, worned out Awake shirt. :\

OMG I went to a DT gig with a girrl from collage, well not with her but you know, and Derek came on to her too. He said "Where you goin' tonight darlin'?"
Man what a sleaze  :lol

I once oredered a taxi and the driver had a DT shirt on, id seen him around but this was the first time i'd had the pleasure. I think he was overjoyed at being able to play random metal in his taxi, but he ruined it by making me listen to Bruce Dickinsons Ice Cube Rant.

Stin64

I have had only one DT shirt experience but it was perfect.

Back during the I&W/Awake days I had worn a DT shirt to see Queensryche at Jones Beach on Long Island. During the break between bands (down in the orchestra seats, still pretty empty) I hear this voice behind me, "Hey! Nice Shirt!" I turn to find Mike Portnoy sitting four rows behind me, grinning.

I got his autograph, thanked him for some awesome music, and spend the rest of the night looking over my shoulder like the teenage girl I was. Crazy.
