I'm assuming this has been discussed to death and I simply missed the memo, but I just noticed this connection in the albums' names. Both albums where a key member has departed.
At least for me probably the best explanation for the shoddy DT album name :lol

And not counting the Soundtrack albums (More and Obscured By Clouds), AMLOR is Pink Floyd's 11th album, just like ADTOE is DT's 11th album! GASP! :eek

AMLOR was not a return to PF's core sound. It was something really different.

The loss of Waters was obviously a far bigger blow than the loss of Portnoy was (although Floyd still did great w/o him), but these situations are eerily similar in this regard: both were control freaks who never thought their bands could and would survive without them, and both were dead wrong.

Mladen

In my head, those two albums don't really have that much in common. ADTOE is a brilliant DT album, whereas AMLOR sucks. And Floyd was pretty much over to me with Roger's departure, while Dream Theater is as strong as always.

article + adjective + noun + preposition + noun

Nuggets?

BTW, in no way suggesting anything sound-related really. I'm merely suggesting they took the

"A (adjective) (noun) of (noun)"

of the PF album as inspiration for the (arguably weird) name of ADTOE.

A Dramatic Lapse Of Reason.

It had to be done buddy. :lol

I do get your point but still...

Kind of funny. A friend of mine immediately compared Portnoy to Roger Waters when he left as well. I assume this has been done multiple times before anyway, but it was before I joined here.

So let me guess, their next album will be called The Addition Gong?
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

and really good. AMLOR is a good album and Division Bell is a great album.

As for ADToE, it's largely forgettable IMO, but good.

On the Backs of Angels = On the Turning Away
Learning to Fly = Bridges in the sky
Build me up / Break me down =  Yet Another Movie / Round and Around (double title)
Sorrow = Outcry (one word title lol)
Signs of Life = This is the life

Seriously, too much nuggets. I can't stand it anymore.
