Contrary to what a lot of people are saying, I'd actually like a heavier album. But heavier in the Glass Prison sense, not the BMUBMD sense.

Heavy hasn't generally been their strong suit. In fact, The Glass Prison is probably the last heavy riffing I've actually liked out of the band. Hasn't been much interesting sense.

fps

Something with plenty of pace and bounce to it with lots of very free guitar and piano work and not too many heavy riffs. So the prog side of things but with energy and not lots of slow lethargic tracks. I liked ADToE thought it was the best in ages.

mmm interesting.. I wouldn't call BMUBMD heavy ...

but agree with you anyway... they all deliver heavy tunes way better me thinks.. than songs like FFH or TITL....

and yes I like heavier tunes way more too

Cedar redaC

Saw this in the General Music board and thought it would be appropriate here.

Came to post the exact same thing! The more I listen to it, the more I love it.

I love it. DT could really make this kind of a song to the next album, but with vocals.

SystematicThought

I agree. Some nice, uplifting guitar moments would be nice.

kirksnosehair

Haven't read the whole thread...I think one thing that I'd like to see more of is the major-key stuff a la "Surrounded"

They kind of brought that back with "The Best of Times" but I'm not particularly fond of that song, I think it's about 5 minutes too long for no good reason.

That song has already had lyrics written to it believe it or not. JP accidentally leaked them if you're interested...

Scotty doesn't know that Fiona and me
Do it in my van every Sunday.
She tells him she's in church but she doesn't go
Still she's on her knees and Scotty doesn't know!

Oh Scotty doesn't know!
So Don't Tell Scotty!
Scotty doesn't know!
Scotty doesn't know!
So Don't Tell Scotty!

Fiona says she's out shopping,
But she's under me and I'm not stopping...

Because Scotty doesn't know!
Scotty doesn't know!
So don't tell Scotty!
Scotty doesn't know!

Don't tell Scotty!

I can't believe he's so trusting,
While I'm right behind you thrusting.
Fiona's got him on the phone,
And she's trying not to moan.
It's a three-way call and he knows nothing!

Scotty doesn't know!
So don't tell Scotty!
Scotty doesn't know!

We'll put on a show!
Everyone will go!
Scotty doesn't know!

The parkin lot
Why not? It's so cool when you're on top!
His front lawn in the snow
Life is so hard because Scotty doesn't know!

We did it on his birthday...

Scotty doesn't know!

Scotty doesn't know!
Scotty won't know!
Scotty doesn't know!
Scotty's gotta know!
Gotta tell Scotty!
Gotta tell him myself!
Scotty doesn't know!

Scotty doesn't know!
Scotty's gotta go!

Yeah, the riff is definitely a little punk rockish. I wouldn't want to hear something like that on a DT album. The shredding is awesome though.

Rattlehead

Thank you for ruining that video for me Adami  :rollin :rollin

Lucidity

I like the mood of the tune, but I think it's way too poppy and generic sounding... it doesn't sound like DT, or even prog. Very overused chords and very repetitive. I think JP is way above this in terms of songwriting, even if the playing is superb. Bring on the hate.

No hate. I agree.

The Presence of Frenemies

My biggest wish for the next album is that any of the "long" songs (let's say 10+ min) have more interesting arrangements. I found the ones on ADTOE to be somewhat lacking in this department--they tended to have a fairly standard verse-chorus-verse-chorus-instrumental-chorus format, except the instrumental was blown up to some absurd length. I feel that DT's long songs tend to cohere better when they take you on a more dynamic journey than that, featuring multiple types of verses and/or choruses.

Beyond that...the same instrumental inspiration that fueled ADTOE would be great. No absurd iPad solos or whatever.

Oh, and more high screamy vocals from JLB. I was so glad that that style of his, which he's been doing live for years, finally made it (in BMUBMD) onto a studio album that wasn't by Winter Rose.

you kidding me? even though it uses that format, it kicks MAJOR ass

They're good songs with great musicianship. But there's just a bit missing with them for me.

ADTOE really got me excited for the next album. DT has a SHIT load left in the tank.

Bagi80

I'd like to see a darker toned, concept album. Something along the lines of SFOM, but heavier.

I wasn't that big of a fan of ADTOE, I can't wait to see what Mike Mangini can belt out in the studio!

Sketchy

I really like the tone of ADTOE. Something that naturally progresses from that melodic, proggy style would be really nice.

Aythesryche

I'd like an album that is in no way influenced by its critics/fans or label. If these guys stay true to themselves, I'm sure it'll be a great album!

I completely agree with this. I really liked BITS but would still prefer to hear less straight-forward song structures. More like Metropolis (for example).

Yeah. I'd love to see something arranged more like The Killing Hand, actually. You know, all sorts of different verses, instrumental breaks, etc. That song feels so much longer than its runtime because of all the twists and turns.
