I've done the same thing with my wife on road trips, and I ask her if I can choose a song.  Just one.  By now, she knows what that means, but she also knows how much it kills me to have to listen to pop dreck, and I do try to find somewhat more accessbile songs.

I do this all the time. At a dollar a song, I can't stomach playing something any shorter than 7 minutes. On Christmas I played ACOS twice in a row

I remember ruining many folks' nights at bars with the "take the jukebox hostage for the low, low price of $5" approach.

The best part of it all is that at least half the time I'll have some dude who's as nerdy as I am come strolling over to me and strike up a DT or Opeth conversation. I think one of 'em even bought me a beer just for making his evening with unexpectedly awesome bar music.

This is great... I've done this to my girlfriend before, I remember putting on Live at Budokan after we agreed on the "just one song deal"and I chose Beyond This Life (the extended live version)

I haven't done anything to that level, but I did play 3 songs for someone who was a fan of Metallica and Iron Maiden (so slightly longer than normal songs aren't unheard of for him), so I played In the Name of God, Pull Me Under and A Change of Seasons. 45 minutes of awesome X
