Question.. seeing DT for first time with Maiden in June. What kind of setlist should I expect for them as the opener?

I'm pretty sure everyone here is speculating on what DT will play when opening for Maiden. With only 50 minutes, you aren't going to get anything too mind-blowing. But DT doesn't disappoint live.

I think 50 minutes of DT for a DT virgin is going to be mind blowing even if its not a long set lol

My first show was during Prog Nation 09, and the set was only about 70-80 minutes. But, it was awesome, helped out by a bunch of great opening acts.
If you like Maiden as well, this will be a good show for you.

I'm just worried they wont play Brave New World, some reason I love that song.

They didn't last tour...
Im not familiar with Iron Maiden's setlist rotation policies, so I couldn't tell you if theres a chance they would play it or not.

Nick

If they play a track from Brave New World I'd say it's a good chance it will be that, all a matter of how much reunion material they play or not.

GuineaPig

Considering it's going to be a catalogue-spanning tour, I'd say we'll see either "Brave New World" or "The Wickerman" on this tour, although I'm leaning towards the latter.

Global Laziness

If DT has 50 minutes, how long does Iron Maiden have?

Hmm well that gets my hopes up a bit. I know all the classics they will play, those I'm definitely excited for.

lateralus88

I have my money on The Wicker Man. Though, if Out of the Silent Planet snuck it's way in there, I'd be a very happy camper.

Considering they've only played it like 5 times, I extremely doubt it.

IM is the headliner, so they have as much as they want.

Fair enough.
Also a thought...Dream Theater and Iron Maiden are playing as part of a special music festival in Ottawa (it's an annual event with hundreds of acts and dozens of big names) that was just recently announced. Dream Theater comes on 6:45 but Iron Maiden doesn't come on until 9:00. 50 minutes would only take us to 7:35, a full hour and a half before Iron Maiden. Anybody else think that Dream Theater might end up playing more than 50 minutes?

Im nearly positive that they will play an extended set.
Excited!

That would be grat, considering they're playing a festival and not opening for Maiden.

Well, they are still opening for Maiden. But, I think in this case, this is more of a co-headlining show.

DarkLord_Lalinc

But how come they're opening since it's a music festival? :???

Its a 2 week festival, though.
Every night is one big act, and sometimes some opening acts.

DarkLord_Lalinc

Yeah, but that means they're playing in the festival, not opening Maiden's performance in the festival...

well nevermind, I'm just glad DT's going to get some good time to play there  :D

I will be in row 18 boys!!!!

And I expect an extended set.
but they are still "technically" opening they'll just be on longer.

I have decided to wear my DT shirt as well...after much personal reflection.
Though if it's really hot...I may not.

Yeah, this.
Bluesfest doesn't usually/ever have seating.

2010-07-05 - Town Ballroom - Buffalo, NY (DT headlining show)

Nick

Dammit, that's the week I'll be out of school, but Buffalo is 6 hours away, tough to do that during a busy summer. I'd love to visit Toronto again though...

LOL@campchair land riff raff.

Gold Circle Seats lads. I don't know how many rows will be "in front of" the A.D.D people who can't seem to sit still in their camp chairs but I won't be there. I'll be in front of them, with my exclusive port-a-crappers just for me, and a bar just for the gold circles folks too.

This will be a new one for me.

I've seen DT's "evening with show" with the intermission. I've seen them co-headline with QR. And I've seen them at....what I would call a "club show" when the played Ottawa last time.

Never seen them open for someone else.

Yo! Meetup?
I'm not in the gold circle...but Ill surely be up as close as I can be. Saving my spot for 5-6 hours will be my activity that day :tup
But, yeah. The Ottawa crew needs to meetup.
