Scenes From a Memory
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Train of Thought
Octavarium
Systematic Chaos
Black Clouds & Silver Linings
A Dramatic Turn of Events

DT2003

So I was inspired by the favorite album title poll and figured it would be cool to see which album cover is people's favorite.

For me, I have to go with Awake.  I like several covers (ToT & BC&SL fight it out for my 2nd favorite) but there has always been something about the Awake cover that I love!

Sketchy

FII, although Awake is close.

I love Storm Thorgersson's work.

PROGdrummer

Black Clouds and A Dramatic Turn of Events are my favorite album covers :) very progressive in their own right.
I can just look at those album covers and let my mind wander.
Black Clouds gets my vote though because i like it better.

Scorpion

FII. Awake is a little nuggety for my tastes.

Syzzle

Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence.

The best cover for their best album.

BlobVanDam

I went with ToT, although SFAM was close behind. I don't think DT are exactly known for great album covers. I don't like the last two album covers at all.

Hmmmm, I'm with you there. Many covers try to be Floydian, and fail in that matter.

I'm also in two minds about ToT and SFAM. They're the only two ones that both have a "point" and are pretty well done.

Awake and IAW are iconic, though, even though they are "outdated" in a way and could have been done much better in this day and age. A part of both will be tattooed on my body someday with a lyric-quote. That's the least I can do for this band of swell people :)

fadetoblackdude7

Octavarium....completely original, and goes great with the album's theme.

54_diplomats

Awake is my favorite followed by Octavarium. Least favorite is definitely WDADU.

DebraKadabra

Octavarium, though it could've been Awake or Images and Words.
Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite
Basically Kyoko Kirigiri

Sycsa

DT doesn't have many great album covers, which is a shame considering how they were in 70's prog. Voted for SFAM, the early ones are cheesy, the last few are decent.

Pols Voice

Awake: best album and best cover.

What part do you want to have tattooed then?
I went with Awake by the way.

I'll do the mirror from Awake tweaked in some way, and the part of the room with the flaming heart also tweaked in some way? This is all some years in the future, so I have time to decide. But if this forum is still active by then, you'll see me do it. There's no way I won't.

They were on a roll SFaM-ToT, but the rest really aren't my thing.  Although, the SE cover for SC was good.

ADTOE. What a sigh of relief, after all the dark album covers before it.

Going with 8V.  Worst is Six Degrees, though literally everything else about that album is perfect.

Seconded, ever since Falling Into Infinity, they've gotten much darker. Not that it matters too much, but it is nice to see something different.

Octavarium would come in close second just for the references to 5 and 8, as well as the cyclical nature of the album.

Lucidity

Personally, I love DT album covers, except for albums that seem a bit overdone or pretentious (Images and Words, Awake *maybe* Black Clouds, etc.). haters gonna hate, but that's my opinion. On the other hand, some album covers just blow me away.

Dramatic and Octavarium are gorgeous to look at. Train of Thought is one of my favourites as well; very gothic and fits the feel of the album. A Change of Seasons, Falling Into Infinity and Scenes are pretty cool, but not extraordinary. Six Degrees doesn't do anything for me...

All in all, I went with Octavarium. It just has an awesome, polished look to it, and the 8 and 5 easter eggs are the icing on the cake.

If you count limited edition Systematic Chaos, with the ants and the traffic light, then that one.
But among regular editions, definitely Scenes From A Memory.

Also, I'm quite surprised that no one chose the cover with the shirtless little boy or... His S&M loving daddy...

?

Awake, describes the tone of the album brilliantly and looks cool anyway.

nikatapi

I voted for TOT, although i also like I&W and FII very much, but i prefer the darker cover of TOT.

Fisi

A Dramatic Turn of Events. I love its colourful and simplistic look. For me it also somehow reflects the whole album very well.

Disagree.....all of them IMO are brilliant, except for WDADU and 6DOIT

Octavarium's artwork is my favorite artwork of all time. It's incredibly mysterious from a first glance (I used to be captivated by it before I really new Dream Theater... yeah I played Rock Band...) and it fits the mood of the song Octavarium very well.

SDOIT, SFAM, or Octavarium. The others aren't that great. I'm not a fan of the cluttered imagery.

jcmistat

I chose Six Degrees. Train of Thought and Octavarium would be in my top 3 as well.
