Whoa, some of you guys are actually serious? Or am I just dense and can't recognize internet sarcasm?

I love ADTOE, but I don't know why anyone would think that everybody has to like the album, or can only dislike it if they're extremely biased.

This goes completely against the point I've laid out several times...

Flacracker

The only way I see Portnoy back in Dream Theater is if it is at an anniversary concert.

Jordan Rudess was a "hired gun," in Paul Northfield's words,
Did he say that? When?
Lifting Shadows! Although the last time I remembered anything from Lifting Shadows someone with a copy of the book to hand told me explicitly that it was utter nonsense, so you might want to wait for a verification on that one. q: I lent my copy to a friend ages ago... haven't seen it since! It'll turn up again. One day.
I need to get my hands on that book, I haven't read it yet.

Also OH SHIT HEF, I SEE RED, I SEE RED

You know, MP seems to have a bit of money on hand. If at some stage he really did want to rejoin DT and they still said no, he could go to Madame Tussauds and pay them to make wax copies of the other band members. Then he could set them up on stage every night with instruments in their hands and tour with them.

It's not like the band moves around that much on stage, people may not even notice the difference.

You never know, it could work.

SnakeEyes

I have absolutely no problem with what LaBrie said or the tone in which it was said.  Anyone remember when Portnoy said that, if DT were to come out nowadays, he's choose a completely different type of singer than LaBrie?  Yeah, I remember that and I assume LaBrie does, too.

I'm being totally serious.
Oh well. I met quite a bit of people who aren't dismissing it just because of Portnoy and yet dislike it (including some users on this board such as myself, Blob and I believe Nekov as well), but if that is your experience, then fine :)

That's why I like ADTOE! I think it's their best album since 6DOIT.

I consider myself a huge Portnoy fan and I like ADToE.

Me too.

I watched DT last sunday here in Sao Paulo and it is really strange to see them without Portnoy.

The first time I watched the video (only a music video!) for OTBOA, seeing someone else than Portnoy behind the kit quite shocked me. But time passed and I got used to it - I'm sure you will too :)

Now if I could get used to Pain Of Salvation being a DG solo band now... :censored

Yes, but in that case, he would be playing with Dream Theater.  He still wouldn't be in Dream Theater.

lol... I'm sorry, but if you consider the genuine facts, you'll realize this will never happen. Where was Kevin Moore for the Images & Words anniversary? Let's take the famous marriage analogy a bit further. So, you get married to a new girl and a few years down the line it happens to be the anniversary of your ex wife. Does that mean you get to leave your current wife for a day to go shack up with our ex? Yeah, that seems reasonable.

Portnoy is gone, man. Let's just try to enjoy him in his new projects.

Can we please cut the marriage analogy? It just doesn't stretch that far.

The only reason KM never came back for a show is because of KM, not because of DT. DS and CD both came back for the anniversary of WDADU just fine. If (and that's a monstrous if at this stage) MP can ever get on good terms with DT, a one off show would be no disrespect or threat to MM at all, as it's very clear he is DT's permanent drummer, just as it was no disrespect to JLB or JR to have ex members filling their roles for a one off show to pay tribute to their past.
Would I bet on it ever happening? At this stage hell no, but you never know what could happen in 5 or 10 years. And it would it affect MM's status in the band? Not in the slightest.

No dissrespect, Blob, but the analogy can be taken as far anyone wishes. It does apply here, too.

DS, KM and CD left the band under different circumstances. There are a ton of details that make MPs departure incomparable to the other guys that left. Length of time in the band, how much Portnoy contributed, his position as band leader, the way in which Portnoy departed, the damage done, etc.

So think about it, if you're in a relationship that lasts a couple years, if it ends early on or if it's an amicable split, then there's a much better chance they could remain friends. The Portnoy situation ended in such way that is nothing like the other guys departures and only suggests we'll never see him again in any capacity. It has nothing to do with the fact if MM would be cool with it or not.

Hey, just my opinion, of course. Just makes sense to me.

The thing is MP was a MUCH bigger part of DT than those two guys ever were.  When they did that anniversary show they only performed for part of the show, which I believe was fine.  Had the band told James and Jordan "We don't need you tonight as we have  Charlie & Derek playing with us, so you guys are free to do what you want" than IMO that would be a problem.  Anniversary show or not, the band is still the band and the former members are still former memebers.  So I think the only way this could possibly work would be if MP agreed to sit in for a few songs, and nothing against MP but I just do not think he'd agree to do that.  But I honestly think to have him play an entire show with DT would be inconsiderate to do to MM and I just don't think DT would ever do that.

Count me in as one of those who until very recently still believed that a reunion with MP and the band was something that was just a matter of time (no pun intended  ;D).  The more I hear/read though makes me feel that it just isn't going to happen.  The ONLY way it would happen is if MM willingly left the band, and I just don't see that happening.

All true.

Sherinian and Dominici were fired via a phone call.

Portnoy quit via a phone call.

Moore sent an audio clip from a movie informing them of his departure.

???  Maybe I missed it, but who even brought that up as a possibility?  It doesn't even make sense to have a former member sit in for an entire show.  I'm not even sure why you would bring that up.

Yeah, this. DT2003, nobody was referring to an entire show. That will never happen, and none of us will argue your points there. At best we're talking like one or two songs, like on WDADRU, and even that is impossible right now.
Nobody in their right mind would try and argue DT would ever let MP play a whole show with them. :lol
