I went with Systematic Chaos. It sounds cool, and the hyperbole of it is awesome. Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence is like A Dramatic Turn of Events. It's cool, but way too long.

I went with WDADU because it makes me imagine what it would be like to mix the intense emotions and freedom of a dream with the clarity and reality of waking life. Imagine you woke up in the real world but with the ability to manipulate and change, just like in a dream.... amazing.
Good description! :tup I went with WDADU as well. Six Degrees has a cool title too but it already has a lot of votes.

I like Octavarium, but something about Falling Into Infinity really catches me

They all are great, but I went with Systematic Chaos. It's cool and describes the music well.

Well of course the title catches us and especially the band. You see... In such an ironically foreshadowing fashion, Dream Theater's career was clearly falling into infinity at the time of "Falling into Infinity's" release.  :tup

Systematic chaos is my favorite title, it really is a perfect description of the band's sound. Also great: Falling into infinity and Six degrees of inner turbulence.

hefdaddy42

I like Train of Thought and Falling Into Infinity, but I think Images & Words is the best title.

Don't understand the logic in voting for 8VM or 6DOIT.  Those are titles that no one outside of prog nerddom would find cool in any way.

I think that could be said about all of their titles. And besides, we are voting for what's coolest for us, and we are prog nerds, so :hat

Speak for yourself. ;)
Since prog is anti-cool, I actually voted for the least proggy. :lol

Oooh, sorry about that. Nothing worse than being mistaken for a prog nerd? :rollin

And that's precisely why I like it. Can't speak for anyone else :)

Elite

Black Clouds & Silver Linings.

It's my least favourite DT album, but the title is their best imho. Making a clever title out of a well-known proverb wins this poll in my book.

Yeah, I'm just the regular kind of nerd, thank you very much! :blob: (speaking of which, that might be why the nerd emoticon is named after me.....)

GalacticGuitarist87

Definitely Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, that name is  :tup

A Dramatic Turn of Events sounds kinda forced as an album title to me.

These albums are my 2 favs though.

KevShmev

I'm with hef.  Titles like Octavarium and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence sound like they were trying too hard.

I went with Images and Words. I thought that was an awesome title the first time I heard it. :tup :tup

I have to admit, I'm the ONE asshole that chose A Dramatic Turn of Events in the poll.  My reason why was because I never really thought of the album names until this thread and realized, most of them are pretty pretentious.  Every album it is if they said, "No we need to come up with something OTHER than an song title!"

If I had to choose again I would say Images & Words.  It evokes kind of a cool thought of the two things you look at when analyzing a situation.  Maybe its still pretentious but it works.  The rest of the titles, with the exception of Scenes From a Memory which fits pretty well and Octavarium which is obviously a song title, seem to be a cool mixture of words for no other reason than it was a cool mixture of words.

ADTOE actually did grow on me and I do dig it just because it is such a departure from the previous stuff.

Bongasti

Can't believe A Change Of Seasons is almost losing this poll, I think it's their coolest album title! I could've gone with Images & Words or Six Degrees too though.

Implode

Systematic Chaos is not really good because it's a way overused oxymoron. So many high school prog bands have had something along the same lines.

Damn, I was literally just about to create this thread like 3 days ago.
Anyway, my vote goes to Black Clouds & Silver Linings.
I always liked the sound of it.

Odd that someone accidentally voted for ADTOE :neverusethis:

IAW is probably the best. The others range from lame to horrible. As Adami correctly pointed out, ADTOE takes the cake, and even goes beyond DT as one of the most horrible album titles in rock history.

robwebster

I'm gonna buck the trend a little here and go on record as saying I will never in my life understand what anyone's problem with A Dramatic Turn of Events as an album title is.

Apparently it is crap, everyone seems to think so, but its crapness is completely lost on me.

rumborak

It sounds like a cheap romance book chapter. Add to that the dimension of MP's departure and it becomes crazy bad.

Naikon

I took Train of Thought. Don't know why really, but the name makes me think. Sounds a bit mysterious.

RuRoRul

Train Of Thought.

Systematic Chaos, Images And Words and even Falling Into Infinity are up there with my favourite DT album names as well, but I dunno if I'd describe them as "cool". Train Of Thought is cool though. Basically my standard is, if someone asks me "What's that album?", what's the one they're least likely to think is lame, stupid, weird or terrible. "Dream Theater - Train Of Thought" just sounds simple and cool, although it's not as unique as some others.

I also really like Metropolis, Part II: Scenes From A Memory - any new fans seeing that FULL album title would be intrigued enough to wonder "Well, where's part one?" and likely get Images And Words shortly thereafter out of sheer curiosity.

-Marc.

My vote, which is mostly in last. I like it mostly for Marc's reason. The fact that its title has Pt.2 in, with an uncommon word before it is why it is cool. It is uncommon (uh Awake) in the scheme of album titles, in that nothing else will be titled something similar or the same. And I think it is quite telling of the scope of the music contained.

Well, and it's my fav. DT album, so yeah.   :coolio

I have never heard that oxymoron outside of Dream Theater.

I was actually a little deterred by that title. I was like, "Well, I know a few songs from this album so I want it, but shouldn't I check out Metropolis Pt. 1 first? Oh, but I don't see Metropolis Pt. 1 for sale anywhere." At the time, I assumed that Metropolis Pt. 1 was an album, not just a song.
But, then I said, "Who gives a shit?" and bought SFAM anyway. And boy, am I glad I did!

I mostly agree there, although I don't consider IaW one of their better ones. It's the least bad of the "____ & ______" group, but that's not saying much.
