You know what would be *really* cool (tho I doubt it happened or will happen) is for DT to do a cover of the song themselves. Imagine that song, but heavied up, DT-style? That would be awesome, not to mention another unique DT track!
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.
Quote from: TAC on July 10, 2024, 08:26:41 AMPOW is awesome! :P

It would be *extremely* cool, but wouldn't the same licence issue arise then?

I don't know how much trouble it would be either way, but it would be easier to get copyright permission to make your own recording of a song than it would be to get the rights to use the original recording.

indeed, they are two different licenses — with two very different price tags!

Like I said, I'm placing my bet for Hell's Kitchen...
That still won't excuse them for not playing it in a decade or so.

Hell's Kitchen is like the good kid who always tries to do the right thing and help their parents but then the stupid bratty siblings get all the attention.

I wonder what Hell's Kitchen ever did to Dream Theater for them to pretend like it never existed?  I think it's been 15 years since they played it live on the FII tour.

trying to get a license for a Hans Zimmer song for a concert DVD would be a headache for the band

Bigger than the headaches from September 2010 to November 2010?

It's got to be canadian rap on loop.
This is the only reasonable solution.

Or perhaps Gnos Sdrawkcab or John Thinks He's Randy Song on loop....

Nihil-Morari

Mike Thinks He's DeeDee Ramone Introducing A Song Song

hefdaddy42

I don't think those things have the same gravitas as The Canadian Rap.

I am maybe one of the very few people that fails to appreciate the canadian rap. I mean, I love all the jokes that come from there, but the song itself is awful. Likely purposedly so...  :\

Why not give some appreciation to Annihilator? Especially during the Mangini era? Put No Zone as the opener and voila!  :metal

Rap artists that use samples almost always redo the songs themselves.  If you use the actual sample from someone elses recording it costs *a lot* more than if you record it yourself.  Public Enemy learned this the hard way and basically earned nothing from the first album or two.

QuoteWant to see one of the bonus features from the Dream Theater DVD? We may have a treat for you guys this week! ;)

Of course they may not :D

Anyway, thoughts or ideas on what it could be??

wasteland

I wish they ceased to use hypothetical verb forms in their announcements

DRUM CAMS! :metal

Well, that would be epic, but I'm sure it's something else. I can already bet there's a documentary of their whole SA Tour leg.

I'm going to say, the bonus feature they'll show case will be something with isolated audio tracks, such as setting a track to just guitars.

No, I think it's just that Hell's Kitchen just isn't that good (especially compared to their other instrumentals).

If there's to be a loop, we all know the one perfect song.

For those who dont Like OTE on Facebook:

"Thanks guys! We're super proud of this one. We'll see what we can do about getting you some sample clips and maybe replacing the audio with the live counterparts. ALSO: we plan on releasing a very special bonus feature exclusively on our Facebook page in the next couple of weeks ;)"
So, anyone see any special bonus yet? It's been pretty close to a couple of weeks. I don't check FB every day but I figure someone would have linked to it here if something had been posted...
