To do it for the whole concert means including the entire concert 5 times on the BluRay, which would surely affect the other features and such. It's usually done for a couple select songs as they see fit.

That's the first thing I thought!

Some DVD's allow multiple camera angles. I'd like to be able to watch any of the guys for the whole concert.
It'd be funny watching James backstage drinking his honey water during all the instrumental breaks

I voted for commentary, especially since it's their first time with Mangini, and the energy will be fresh and fun.

I would vote HELL NO for full-concert individual cameras.  Nowadays, each member has at least one camera on them the entire time so the editor can show who's soloing when it's their time.  Previously, MP just didn't have the footage necessary cuz they didn't have that setup.  Even Steve Vai (Live in Astoria) is plagued by this problem.  The only time I can see including a feature like this was, like was already done, during the Instrumedley when each member is pretty much doing a lead or something interesting the entire time.  Do you really want to watch and entire John Myung angle where nothing happens?  It's like Seinfeld... it would be a show about nothing.  ;)

As long as each member has unique camera all to themselves everything should be fine.

I'd rather see split-screens during unisons so we can see everything going on and not have to switch back and forth every few seconds just to try and get as much as they can in.

PS - My favourite commentary moment so far was when James said how much Jordan had changed his look from back in the Live in Tokyo and Five Years videos... and also when James did the whirlwind across the stage during To Live Forever and the guys went nuts.

No way a concert would fit 5 times anyway. There's a reason it's only usually done for a few songs on DVDs (and the situation isn't going to be much better on Bluray). I think Budokan was right to include the instrumental multi-angle on the second disc.

I'd expect a commentary as standard these days really and I do like them.
Voted for extra drummer audition footage but think that's unlikely unless it's just MM's audition. He is the drummer now so very little point showing us more of what we could've had, lol. I would love to see Lang's audition in full, and the other MM's though.

I can take or leave tour footage tbh, though some soundcheck jams would be nice. At least there won't be hours of MP being all metal and acting like he's 6 years old so that's a bonus in itself.

YtseJamittaja

Extra drummer audition footage. And then some extra footage from the tour. Not interested about commentary.

...you've never looked at his bass parts, have you?

No, I've never seen JM play bass, ever.  Got anything else passive-aggressive to say?

senecadawg2

Either the commentary, or 'making of' footage (which I think would be especially interesting considering the dynamics of the band at the time of the making.

So, yeah, seriously, it would be cool if people would vote and post ideas.  Quickly.

DarkChestOfWonders

This is awesome.  Why do I get the feeling someone in the band may actually look at this when it's done?

I voted "other."  I guess this could be part of a documentary, but I would love to see a good chunk of soundcheck footage.  As in, the band performing a couple of songs at soundcheck.  Documentaries sometimes include a few snippets from sound checks, and since I've never really had the chance to sit and watch an actual soundcheck before a show, it would be nice to see some.

I would also love more video of either the auditions themselves or the studio time when we the fans didn't know who the drummer was going to be.

Now, THAT would be cool.

I've said it before, but I would really like to see an 'on-the-road' type documentary along the lines of 'Riding The Train of Thought' on the Budokan DVD. If memory serves correctly, it included some soundcheck footage, some interviews, extra footage outside the venues, etc. It would be nice to see how the soundchecks are with MM in the band and how they generally act together when they're not playing a show or doing interviews. In that vein, a commentary would be cool, as well.

MP seemed the best part.of commentaries, he'll usually spark the conversation.

Actually, it seemed he droned on and on about stuff we already knew. JP/JR and JLB said all the funny shit

If you think MP was the best part of the commentaries then you need to get a fucking life!

(Before anyone thinks I'm and asshole, this is a reference to the best part of the LiT/5YIAL commentary uttered by James LaBrie.)

So in all seriousness, I love audio commentary to the point where I even bought the MP DVDs of Score and whatever else had commentary just to hear it.  I'm not a huge MP fan and not a drummer but I love hearing the behind the scenes stuff.  Commentaries are my absolute favorite bonus feature on DVDs, especially when you get a group of guys like DT together and you get the feeling you're just kind of hanging out with them and shooting the shit.

On a side note, John Carpenter and Kurt Russell have some amazing commentaries.  It's a mixture of good info and laughter.  Probably why DT commentaries are so awesome.

Adami

I only want a commentary if they do one like the bonus commentary for Pain of Salvation's BE dvd.

Definitely extra from the tour, although I didn't vote for it when this thread was first started.

In particular, if there are a few songs that they aren't playing right now that they did play a while back, and they recorded them with good enough video footage, it'd be cool to see them make the bonus features section.  The Count of Tuscany for one would be cool, if for no other reason than to shut up those who will piss and moan if they play no BC&SL songs at either show next week. :P

Id like extra live songs. The commentaries are really cool but if they don't talk about things the fans don't know or the fans don't care to hear, than I don't see the point. With a new drummer id rather see more live material with MM. I think the main concert of the DVD with mostly songs that haven't been on any DVD with the bonus material being live songs that have been on DVD would be optimal for me.

Full audition for each drummer including interviews.

Except Derek Roddy since his audition just has the cam mic and all you hear is drums.

I voted for commentary. Even if they barely talk about anything new, they are funny as shit. Even Myung said something funny in the LIT commentary. When they see him stage left, someone says "he had the rollerblades on back then", and JM responds with "I heard they were serving some good cookies" or something along those lines. xD

BlobVanDam

Just incase anybody from or related to DT reads this-

INCLUDE MIKE MANGINI'S FULL DT AUDITION TAPE, OR ELSE THE SPIRIT WON'T CARRY ON*

*this is an idle threat with no intended meaning, but hopefully you don't read the fine print

cramx3

The only part of the audition id really like to see is the jamming because that is most likely some awesome dt instrumental music (judging by the bits and pieces we do see)

Metropolis1928

(Hi! First post! I've been a long time lurker of this forum and I thought this was a good time to stop :D)

I voted commentary. I absolutely love the ones on LFSNY and 5YIALT/LIT and I think that they can do a very fun one this time (maybe some talk about forklifts?).

Also, I think that the entire MM audition would be very cool to watch, or at least the 3 songs he played with the other guys (and we could have a 'live' setting of ANTR). Even if the video or the audio is a little raw, it could be great as extra content (and judging from the TSCO docummentary it would be better than CiM, so no problem there...  ;D).

So, yeah. First option, commentary.

Or after they have been talking about all of JP's instruments and what he plays they showed JM and said, "Hey John what are you playing there?"

JM: (pause) "Bass."

Classic.
