Well, I'm just happy to be a singer. I'll gladly give a voice to someone else's lyrics. Not that I have a band at the moment or anything.

yEAH ,i WISH THERE WAS A LISTENING PARTY i COULD GO TO. So i'm gonna try and have a few friends over to listen to it and watch some other material from that era.

I end up writing lyrics for the bands I'm in, and it used to be that I had to write 100% of them. But I tell people now to PLEASE write lyrics. I'm not "that guy" who feels like just because I'm the singer that I HAVE to write all the lyrics. I welcome other lyricists.

*Appreciates very much*

I didn't know about this, but I'll make sure to give it a spin when July 7th comes along at 12 pm :)

Sure, we'll probably never get another album this awesome, no matter how much we want it, but I'm learning to live with that idea. The important thing is that we acknowledge how great it is and the role that each member had played in it, in spite of the band being surrounded in all the controversy because of Mike Portnoy. I was going to listen to it another day, but I think I'll actually take the time today. Though not right now, it's going to have to wait, for sleep is trying to pull me under. Insert blatant reference to Metropolis Pt. 1 and Under a Glass Moon here.

They're different type of lyrics from his other stuff sure. Lie is a lot more badass and more... Almost more down to earth in a way. But in terms of how it's worded, it still has very much of Kevin's uniqueness. People just don't write lyrics like that.

"I had gotten used to being a soul destroyed. She comes in apparently to fill the void. All dogs need a leash and at least I'll forget it. And she would never hurt me though, she's never said it."

Beautiful.
If you look at some Chroma Key lyrics, it's not THAT different, but yeah, it is a bit different than what he usually does. And you've hit the nail on the head with the part in bold :)
Yep, he continued that down-to-earth yet abstract kind of writing in Chroma Key and OSI.

Anyway, today is the day! :metal

One of the most amazing albums ever. Happy Birthday  :D

TAC

I'm working now but this will definitely get spun tonight.
The greatest album these ears have ever heard.

Takes the suspense out of the TAC Top 50 in a few months!

Yep, he continued that down-to-earth yet abstract kind of writing in Chroma Key and OSI.
And sometimes he continued the mind-bogglingly-poetic style in CK and OSI too:

Quote
Took the flower back
His wayward love had been mislead
The sun is dying
Apologies she won't accept
Check the window quick
The sun is dying
A candle marks her tears
The flame will fade
She'll greet the dawn in disarray
She steps into the stream the level rising
She steps into the stream the level rising
I mean, HOLY FUCK.

Where it all began for me.

The keyboard solo on Take The Time still gives me the chills 20 years later.

Dream Theater ... greatest band of all time  :metal

DebraKadabra

Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite
Basically Kyoko Kirigiri

GasparXR

Fuck, forgot this was today. Gonna start listening right now. Last time I listened to it was maybe 2-3 weeks ago. I tend to go through the discography ever 3-4 weeks or so :lol

orcus116

That key solo in Take The Time is by far the best key solo that has ever come out of the band.

Nah, but the second verse of Metropolis, the second-to-last verse of Surrounded and the final verse of Learning To Live make up my top 3 DT verses ever.

Went to bed last night with I&W on my headphones. A great listen.
