Hi everyone,

First post here, have been looking for a forum to settle in. Anyways, I just wanted to know from some DT fans who have seen enough shows if JP has ever whipped out the multicolored Ibanez for any post-90's shows . I think it's just a really cool looking guitar, and while I realize he uses 7-strings almost entirely now, I think it would be sweet to see it again.

And if it's responsible for the dreamy I&W guitar 'sound' (though that may also be the amps/production), then I definitely would like to see/hear it more

Welcome!

As far as I know, it hasn't seen the light of day in quite some time, probably due in large part to his endorsement deal with EBMM.

Yea, he probably isn't allowed to play any guitar live other than his MM models.

This. Not to mention he still uses primarily his 6 string EBMM model guitars.

SystematicThought

I do miss the sound of Ibanez though. When both JM and JP switched to MM, the music changed. Not horribly, but distortion moved in

That has nothing to do with Musicman instruments.

I know that, but it is something that I've always associated Music Man with  :lol

Same as I hate Paiste cymbals because they remind me of the shitty ones at my grade school on the drum kit

Well to be fair, Paiste sucks. So you're right with that one.

I've seen a number of shows over the years, and while it is true that JP *did* actually play some Ibanez picasso guitars post-90s, it was only when he was transitioning to MM. Specifically, I remember during the 3 shows I saw on the first North American leg of the Metropolis 2000 tour (early February 2000), he played both his old Ibanez and one or two prototype JP MM guitars. Since then, it's strictly been MM.

The music didn't change, but you're right in that the tone quality did change. I have an Ibanez RG Prestige, which is essentially a JP model with a few minor differences, and I have a signature EBMM JP guitar. They are two very different sounding guitars, though made for the same music.

Damn, color me jealous!

If he plays his Ibanez he has to wear jeans and sneakers too.

Never played a JP Ibanez, but I own 4 of his MM models and they are by far my favorite guitars.

Since he has been endorsed by MM, never and they have been out of production since.  I have one though and the sound you are talking about is due to the piezo pickup.

chrisbDTM

i hope he brings the picasso out for a special show in the future

:omg: I love paiste ! I've had the same cymbals for a long long time now and my 20" Ride and 18" crash/ride have not a crack on them !!! Plus they sound great for the cheap range.

Having said that - I actually have some Stagg cymbals which are not only cheap but sound great.

The 10" Stagg splash has such a great sound and my 16" China is awesome too - fat and punchy - exactly like I wanted.
