So, have you ever woken up at six o'clock to 6:00 (or a full Awake listen starting with 6:00) on a Christmas morning? Would you like to?

robwebster

I used to have a CD player with an alarm clock function, with an option to play whatever album's in the disc tray to wake you up.

The disc would generally change day to day, and the time week to week, but 25th December? 6AM on the alarm, Awake in the tray, every time. That drum fill is a brilliant wake-up at the best of times, it's so driven, but that music on a cold winter's morning... it's a wintry album anyway, but ohh, magical. Ace stuff.

Sycsa

I don't like having music as wake up alarm, because I'll grow to hate those songs within a week. I always play 6:00 when I get home in the morning after partying all night though.   :hat

This. Old phone ringing wakes me up and I hate that sound. Few weeks ago I heard that sound on TV and I had strange feeling :(

I need to do this.

I need to do this.
I want to do it too, but as I share a room with my brother and sister, I'm going to have to do it with headphones. No dancing across the room in the early morning to Awake until I get older, sadly. Was just curious about you guys, and whether anyone is going to do it this year :)

If I get round to getting an alarm clock...

...and find where my copy of Awake is, probably in my mother's car... Again.

Edit: this thread has now made me go and listen to Awake.

BlobVanDam

I usually wake up at about 7 on Christmas morning, and that's brutal enough for me! :lol
I don't know what would be worse - being woken up at 6am, or having to endure SIX O CLOCK ON A CHRISTMAS MORNING SIX A CLOCK ON A CHRISTMAS MORNING SIX A CLOCK ON A CHRISTMAS MORNING SIX O CLOCK ON A CHRISTMAS MORNING. It's a cool song, but that intro..

Aye, that you did, Mora, that you most certainly did.

And now: for the first time in I don't know how long, I'm on a DT binge.

Yes, because Awake is amazing.

I'm usually up before 6 on Christmas morning, but I have listened to that song at 6 before.

?

I don't want to wake up that early on Christmas and besides, 6:00 is a great song for every day of the year.

chrisbDTM

ive done it. immediately went back to sleep for a couple hours after, but ive done it

I should clarify. By "set my alarm" I mean that I set my alarm to play 6:00 at 6am. I wake up, listen to the song while posting "6:00 on a Christmas morning" on all the social networking sites, then I go back to bed.

Cool Chris

I am not a morning person. I know it is Christmas, but with regards to 0600, in the words of Adrian Cronauer, the 0 stands for "Oh my god, it's early!" The presents aren't going anywhere.

This. If I woke up to that sample, my alarm clock would be defenestrated.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

I like it too. I'm going to do it this year, definitely, even if I can't dance across the goddamn room. Who's with me?

TheGreatPretender

I love the song, but there's no way in hell I'm waking up at 6:00 on Christmas. It's likely I'll be partying until 4 or 5.

Ħ

Yup. That song alone got me to change my sleeping habit from waking up at 10 to waking up at 6.

Jaq

I usually wake up every year at around 6:00am on Christmas anyway, before I ever heard a note of Dream Theater's music, so it's kind of a habit the band validated.  :lol

JayOctavarium

Past few years I have had an alarm set on xmas to go off at 6am playing 6:00... I then send a text to my few DT head friends... and then pass out

And considering that I wouldn't want to be woken up at 6 am, the "And for what?" would be fitting.

GOSH DARNIT, THAT'S NOT HOW I WOULD HAVE FINISHED THAT SENTENCE AT ALL! :P

The intro samples are awful, but I was trying to be gentle.

TheGreatPretender

I much prefer these samples to the ones in Space-Dye Vest.

No.  2 reasons.

1.  I wake up at 5:30am on work days and after 8:00am on weekends.
2.  Christmas morning is like a weekend.

Besides, your mind isn't fully alert and that time of day.  The best time to listen to it would be between 8:30 & 10:30am.

What if you listened to the first verse at 6:00am, and the second at 9:00am in your car?

Planning on it! Just look below my picture  :P

I'm so sorry for expressing an opinion. I'll be sure to call out everyone else for the billionth time they constantly shit on everything DT's done in the past decade. But god forbid I say something ever so marginally negative about Awake! If calling 6:00 a cool song is shitting on it, then that's pretty damn sad.
Get over it, seriously.

Correct.  It has been forbidden.
