Is there no Australian tour announced or have I missed something?

They're toured Asia but no Aussie dates have been announced yet?

BlobVanDam

No Australia leg this tour.
I asked JR about this, and he said because it was so expensive getting here etc, they decided to take a break from here this tour. The Australian dollar and the economy probably didn't help.

A little off topic, but anyone had the opportunity to ask any DT member about the South America tour? It's almost august/september and no news...
Thanks!

If they aren't doing Australia they'll probably skip us as well.  :(

I'm shocked that they can't afford traveling to Australia on this tour. Does that mean they earned less money on this tour than on the previous ones? Or am I just looking into it way too much?

I think what it means is:

1. They never did a big margin on AUS to begin with, but had it in their tour to please the fans
2. The weak US dollar and strong AUS dollar makes 1. even worse

Yep. We're a difficult country to do well in, because we're relatively isolated, and because we only have the population to play a few spread-out major cities. So first they have to fly all of their equipment and stage setup here, and then they can only play 5-6 shows in an area the size of the US before flying it all back.
Our ticket prices are a lot more expensive than the US to compensate, but it's still a riskier country to play in, and I can't blame them for it.

Thing is also, DT are rather equipment-heavy. If they were the kind of band a la Phish, they could just show up at the venue with their instruments and play otherwise rented equipment.

We actually got the "A-rig" the first time they came here, and I think they learned their lesson, because we got the "B-rig" on the next tour. But even then, that's a lot of equipment to be hauling around.

They seem to lessen the stage show in other countries. And in Canada too it would seem. Is it just me or does the light show change from city to city on this tour?

And the video screens as well. I saw a video from either Thailand or Singapore where they had a massive single screen behind the band rather than the three cubes that has been the norm on this world tour so far.

SystematicThought

Oh wow, I didn't even notice that. Actually, if it weren't for the lights right there, the huge screen wouldn't be too bad of an idea for future tours. The cube screens is cool though. I noticed too that in one of the videos I watched in Singapore, MM's drum kit doesn't have the album artwork on the kicks.

Yeah, I'm bummed as I missed the last tour.  Can't entirely blame them but surly the band are in a better situation then they were during the last two tours.  Plus out dollar is equal to the US at teh moment too.

Jay.Ess

The Aussie dollar has been going down alarmingly the last week or so.
I guess it's too little, too late though!

We should see them next time around, fingers crossed. :)

Danstarbang

Would have liked to have seen them again, Maybe next tour.

Spacebar.

Strong Aussie dollar plus average audience numbers (considering they had to drop prices from around $120 -> $60, which is never a good sign) at the last tour made them highly unlikely to tour this time.

Maybe with Michael Coppel (who IMO didn't do a great job advertising the last tour) being bought out by Live Nation, we might see DT return to our shores but it will all depend on the sales numbers from the next album...
