Anyone ever notice this about "Forsaken"?

I just bought a new interface for recording (M-Audio C600, for anyone interested) and I was blasting some DT to check out how it sounds with some of my music.... and, I noticed that right after LaBrie sings, "She softly whispered in my ear" .... there's someone literally whispering "Forsaken" right after he says that line and right before the chorus kicks in.

It has probably been discussed 10,000 times and I'm just dumb, but.... I just noticed it.... and that's pretty badass.  Still doesn't make SC good, though.  LOL

I noticed, probably after a couple listens. As much negativity as this track gets around here, I actually enjoy it quite a bit.

Yeah, I just realized what an awesome song it is.... I really just can't stand what the song is about.  The whole vampire thing.... can't stand it.

It is (was) also a really good song in concert, too.

I knew there was a whisper, but I didn't know what it said. I never listen to the song anyway because it's awful.

ResultsMayVary

I noticed it after I watched the SC documentary. There is a quick scene of James whispering "Forsaken" into the mic in the vocal booth.

At the risk of sounding snobby, I didn't realize that anyone didn't notice that.

Same here. I thought it was pretty clear, but it's a kick ass song, so I listen to it quite often.

Exactly that. What speakers have you been listening on that you could miss it? I guess he just doesn't listen to the song often, which wouldn't surprise me.
A nice little detail to the song though. :tup

Same here.  I barely ever listen to the song, but I thought that was pretty obvious. ???

I agree, it's a pretty cool song. Not by any means one of DT's finest, but an enjoyable one to listen to. I noticed it after a few listens, I think.

Well, I'd say DT's finest usually involve long, drawn out instrumental sections, so obviously it's not one of those songs, but it's got a great melody, great riffs, great vocals, and overall it's still better than the vast majority of similar sounding songs by most other bands.

jcmistat

I've noticed the whisper.

Haters gonna hate. But its okay. I love Forsaken and Systematic Chaos.

BlackInk

I didn't even think it was supposed to be 'hidden'. It's pretty loud and clear.

Seems like it now, I'm sure, but a while ago I mentioned that creepy little noise you hear at the beginning of Home, and some people were like "Whoa! I never heard that before!" I guess it's just one of those things that if you hear it, you can't unhear it.

Silver Tears

Yeah I don't think the whisper's all that hidden, your speakers must have been a bit dodgy  :P

Super Dude

Forsaken suffers negativity here? Not that I would really know one way or another, but if so I would heartily disagree. It's one of the few consistently awesome songs on the album.

Yes, I have noticed.

Forsaken and Systematic Chaos are both good.

Mladen

Forsaken is good, but Systematic chaos is REALLY good.

And yeah, that whisper is pretty awesome.  :metal

One of DT's best songs for me. Coulda been a hit with a decent video and a push.

This. Forsaken is not special, but I think it's one of the better songs on SC because it has some nice melodies and doesn't feature unnecessary or cringeworthy sections.

Yeah, I always thought it was pretty out-front too. And I thought it was a really cool song.

Yes, I've noticed. I used to listen to Forsaken alll the time (back when Pull Me Under and Forsaken were the only DT songs I owned!) and noticed it on maybe the 2nd or 3rd listen. Then you can't un-hear it, kind of like that murmur thing in Through Her Eyes that was discussed a while ago on the boards.

ColdFireYYZ

I've always heard it. Forsaken is a pretty good song, not their best obviously but its enjoyable. I was listening to SC for the first time in a while last week and its a solid album.

Tis BOOLsheet

I noticed it immediately. Some of the riffs and details are cool, but the song is one of Dream Theater's worst songs, on one of Dream Theater's worst albums.

These forums are kinda weird. One day, you mention forsaken or SC and 7/10 people will go out of their way to say how much they hate it, another time (like now) it seems like it's the other way around.

And thus, the world achieves balance.

I've only listened to it a handful of times.... I don't know, I never noticed it .... and, I usually pick up on things like this rather quickly.  I probably just didn't care enough to pay attention in this case, though, because I was thoroughly disappointed with SC and pretty much didn't want any part of it.  But, musically, this is a cool song (not lyrically).

GasparXR

I never noticed that, I will have to listen for it next time. And I actually like this song, the chorus sounds almost like it belongs on ADTOE, with the choir-like keyboard parts.
