Hi guys!

As you may know, we've been working for what seems like an age on the paperback of Lifting Shadows. Both myself and the publishers are based in the UK, and they're talking about running off some review copies for the US.

I was wondering which of the music mags in the US are DT friendly - we're talking about actual magazines here, not websites - so we can get some copies off to them.

I'm grateful for all suggestions!

Wow, I'm actually not sure.  I don't think I've looked at an actual music magazine in a decade or two.  But there are a couple of members of this board who infrequently post and are U.S.-based journalists.  I will message them and see if they have any info they can share.

Honestly, as a U.S. citizen, when I want to read a music magazine, I always grab a U.K. mag. The U.S. music magazines are terrible, and there is not one that I can think of that really caters to the music I most listen to. Rolling Stone does have a book review category, but I don't think Dream Theater rates high enough in what they usually cover for music for it to hit its radar. Haven't read Spin in years (is that still even published?) and I don't read metal leaning things like Revolver to know if they would pick something like this up.

Well, Modern Drummer, Drum Magazine and Drumhead magazine have always featured MP and Mike Mangini.
Guitar Player, Guitar One have always featured JP at least twice a year.

Brave Words have featured DT in the past (I have a couple of articles from the Six Degrees era). Don't know if its US based though.

Yeah, there are a few UK Magazines that are available in North America. Metal Hammer, for sure.

I don't even know is Prog is a UK or a US publication, but obviously that one would be great.

Last year, Petrucci was on the cover of Guitar World, so obviously they're DT friendly. Again, I don't know where this one originates either.

But those are the ones that I usually pay attention to.

Do Newspapers count?

If so, The Washington Post reviewed an album and liked it. New York Times and USA Today might too.

Magazine wise though- Entertainment Weekly liked SDOIT.

While you did specify print only, The AVClub (www.avclub.com) is somewhat friendly toward Rock/Metal biographies, and reviews would see print in the markets that still have print editions The Onion.

I'm sure the major US musician magazines would do something and of course there is Goldmine, who might do something more extensive, but I stopped my subscription a while ago and don't really know what they've been up  to lately.

Bass Player is another one that has had articles here and there on JM.
