What songs would you remove from Falling Into Infinity?

New Millennium is basically the song that got me into DT. I will not bore with the entire story, but without it I still would have misclassified them. It has a decent share of the technical spots, but it has some nice aggressive parts with some varied singing.

I love New Millennium.

You not me, on the other hand, might be one of their worst songs.  I'd ditch it.  I like every other song on the album except Anna Lee and Just Let Me Breathe, which I'm indifferent to.

To be honest, the album is much stronger than people give it credit for, and simply creating a playlist that removes You Not Me takes care of most of my problems with it.  It's not very "metal" and it may not be their proggiest, but that's fine.  It's still one of my favorites.

It cuts out half the album, but I think these are some of the band's best songs from the album proper, although if I had to include the non-album B-Sides, it would make the choice of narrowing it down to 50-55 minutes a LOT harder.

I skip nothing on FII and love all the songs on the album. I find Raise the Knife to actually be sub-par to most of the songs on the album and I'm glad it's a b-side, but don't get me wrong, the b-sides to FII were great too. FII is such an underrated album.

Throw out JLMB and YNM and replace them with Raise the Knife and Speak to Me. That makes the album longer by about ten minutes, but that would be perfect.

If 90-minute CDs aren't an option, then I guess New Millenium would have to leave as well.

Well, I listened to JLMB again, and I find the vocal melodies rather bland, I must say, but I have no idea whether this is the general problem that the people here on DTF have with this song or if that's just me.

The vocal melodies aren't all that exciting, although I do love the melody of the pre-chorus, and the vocal delivery mostly makes up for it for me. And musically, I love it for it's high energy, cool keyboard work on the synth/organ, and the guitar riffs. The song has an energy and fun to it that I think balances out the album just right. I couldn't imagine ditching it for any of the leftovers.

Personally I don't really like any of them anyway except for RTK, and much prefer everything that made it to the album, aside from YNM and TAMP.

I was listening to the album the other day, and I came to the conclusion that it would be MUCH better if the first two songs (New Millennium and You Not Me) weren't included. They start an otherwise excellent album off on a very poor note. The rest of the album is so good that it's almost comical how they chose two terrible songs to introduce it. "Here's an album full off great songs, but you have to sit through two pieces of shit first to get you warmed up. Enjoy."

The only other song I would consider removing is Anna Lee. I'm on the fence about it. I wouldn't lose any sleep if it wasn't there, but at the same time, I like it enough to keep it.

Fans call this album a "mixed bag", with some of Dream Theater's best alongside their very worst. Which songs would you remove from the final tracklisting, and why?
