Mangini is the man!  I love how he's integrating new technology into his kit... very cool!

But to be fair, you can say the same about every other Youtube video. Ever. :lol

But honestly - these are above and beyond. Saying that that simple bossa nova beat Mangini is playing proves that Travis Barker is better . Almost blasphemy worthy levels of fail . Oh what the Hell ... James T Kirk

If you like a guy that can play 1 beat fast that is. Not saying he doesn't do that great.

I'm sure Mike Mangini COULD do all of that as well, but he likes to play to the song in a more melodic way, something a bit more tasteful and less...barraging.

That link is a pretty impressive show of skill and endurance, but show me that guy doing some of the stuff that Mangini can do as far as playing grooves to songs and not rudiments to songs, or even doing drumming to jazz or 4/4 rock & roll.

I think drummers who get really REALLY good at ONE style and ONE kind of thing really narrow themselves down. Sure you can be good at something, but why stop there? Why limit yourself? Even drummers who aren't very technically proficient, like Portnoy, still branch out and cover a lot of stylistic varieties and genres that show us they are capable of being more open-minded about their drumming.

Personally, I'd rather be kind-of good/pretty good at multiple styles of drumming and than narrowing myself to being extremely good at one style. I would get pretty bored with doing blast beats every song I play.

A genie SPEED Wise . and no mangini cannot do that at least with his Feet

Well if he took the time to learn how to use Twin Effect pedals, I'm fairly confident he could come close. His feet are pretty fast as it, and he always seems to be practicing and learning, so I don't think he wouldn't be able to LEARN how to pull off rolls like that with a new pedal system.

From Blabbermouth...

"Mangini is notorious for his technical prowess and holds three out of four World's Fastest Drummer titles. These include the Fastest Matched grip at 1,247 strokes in 60 seconds; Fastest Hands, which he earned by executing 1,203 single-stroke notes in 60 seconds without drumsticks mallets etc.; Fastest Traditional Grip which he earned by executing 1,126 strokes in 60 seconds; and Fastest Single Stroke Foot record, playing 13,222 hits in 15 minutes and 5,222 hits in five minutes."

I'd say that makes him pretty fast. Just what would be the point of playing that fast in anything other than a speed metal band. It would sound lame in DT music.

It depends on what you focus on. The guy is literally just barely tapping the drums, the triggers give it the volume and noise. If he didn't have the triggers, you would barely hear anything at all. And yea, if you spent all of your time being able to tap drums super fast, you'd be super fast. However you'd be a one trick pony. Which I guess works for death metal.

Can someone please tell me how he does this !?

Kotowboy

Triggers and quad - bass pedals ?

SO you get two hits per every notmal bass drum hit. One on the downstroke and one on the upstroke.

If you have one of these double pedals on each bass drum - you get 4x the amount of hits as a normal pedal on a single bass drum.

Plus triggered snare / toms - which give an even sound despite a very light touch - resulting in hardly any effort but uniform sound.
