Is Myung doing a slap and pop here? It has always sounded like it to me, but I have not seen the song live (nor on camera during LFSNY). It is during the pick tapping part of JP's solo.

Definitely is. I'm not sure what that means, but that's what he's playing!

yes definitely a slap and pop, absolutely amazing!!

Yep, Myung slaps here. I don't think there's any other place in the DT discography where Myung does this.

I do believe TDEN has slaps

In what part? I can't think of a part that would.

Agreed, no slaps. I think definite hard pulls on the chords, or near pops. But for sure no slaps. Same applies to the outro of OTBOA.

I saw it mentioned back in the day on that other forum; TTT's rhyming, funky first verse would have definitely benefited with some slaps and pops.

I thought they were pops (just from what people had referred to them as before), although I don't actually know the difference between a slap and a pop. :lol
But yes, it definitely sounds like it has something going on with those little chords in the riff. One of the things I love about that song. :hat

Yeah, I have no idea what the difference is too :lol

The difference: Slapping is hitting the strings with the thumb (a few players use other fingers, but let's not talk about them), so you're really slapping the strings. Pop is usually done with the index and middle finger, and is done by pulling the strings away from the fretboard pretty hard. Typically slapping is used for the bottom strings (B, E, A) and popping for the higher ones, although it's of course possible to play whatever you want on all the strings. It's all called slap bass usually.
Myung is definitely popping in TDEN, and both slapping and popping in One Last Time. The intro to Take The Time sounds kinda slapped too, but it also has a pretty synth-ish sound.

Yes, and the popping sound comes from when the strings come back and strike the fretboard. JM definitely does pops (in fact two string pops) in TDEN: you can see that on the Chaos In Progress DVD. Also, in Metropolis, there's a bit where he does a slap. It's not terribly prominent, but you can see it in live versions of Metropolis, including a really brief glimpse on the Score DVD. On the studio version of the song, it's the portion from 6:30-7:03.

Thanks for that explanation. :tup

Yeah he def. slaps/pops at that part. I remember seeing it on the Live Scenes DVD.
