Setlist Scotty

Hey all

been trying to imagine what DT could put together for their next live release which is something Jordan told me (last September) is something they are planning to do from this tour.

No clue as to what form it will take (culled from multiple shows or just one show), but imagining that they are gonna film/record a single Evening With gig (ala LSFNY, L@B and Score), I'd like to see what you guys would put together for setlists, taking into consideration the following:
• pick tracks that have only been played on this tour thus far
• keep the total time under 3 hours and the sets relatively even in time

Here's what I came up with:
set 1
Bridges in the Sky
6:00
Build Me Up, Break Me Down
Surrounded
The Root of All Evil
drum solo
A Fortune in Lies
Outcry
Through My Words
Fatal Tragedy
Learning to Live

set 2
Wait for Sleep
Far From Heaven
Beneath the Surface
The Silent Man
The Dark Eternal Night
The Great Debate
On the Backs of Angels
Endless Sacrifice
These Walls
Breaking All Illusions

encore
The Count of Tuscany

Just to explain some of my choices - didn't include UaGM, Metropolis, WIMH/TTTSTA, TSCO since all were on Score and AFAIK none of them have changed much. I did include Surrounded, TDEN, TRoAE and Endless Sacrifice because despite them being on recent live releases, all differ enough from previous live versions. Chose AFiL over Ytsejam since it's been longer since AFiL has been released (LatM) than Ytsejam (OiaL), and as much as I love WDaDU, I can't imagine them including both tracks. Started off the second set with an "unplugged" mini-set to include both A and B setlist options.

So what have you guys come up with?
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

TAC

 :lol What else is there?

Scotty, are you expecting a second run through the States in the Spring/Summer? I'd be disappointed if they weren't planning another US leg. I suppose if they did do another leg, there'd be a couple of other songs to choose from, perhaps Lost Not Forgotten.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

This + is it gonna be decided according to album sales?

So I'm listening to "The Ministry Of Lost Souls" in my car on the ride home earlier tonight and was thinking - I really hope that, when they (DT) release another live album, they make sure to release a ton of new songs that haven't been released on live CDs yet, as well as giving us a good complete set of songs they've played live with MM so far"...so it got me thinking, how would I create a track list given the best performances of songs from the summer and fall tours so far, knowing which songs have been played, and this is what I came up with...

A Dramatic Tour Of Events
Disc 1:
1. Bridges In The Sky
2. These Walls
3. Build Me Up, Break Me Down
4. Mike Mangini Drum Solo ("The Genie Unleashed"? :lol)
5. Ytse Jam
6. The Silent Man
7. Beneath The Surface
8. The Great Debate
9. Wait For Sleep
10. Learning To Live

Disc 2:
1. On The Backs Of Angels
2. Caught In A Web
3. Peruvian Skies
4. Through My Words
5. Fatal Tragedy
6. Outcry
7. Far From Heaven
8. Breaking All Illusions
9. The Count Of Tuscany

Both discs would run about 73-76 minutes each, and include 19 of the 24 songs played so far this tour - it excludes "Forsaken", "Metropolis", PMU, UAGM, and ES. "Forsaken" was released on Chaos In Motion, Metropolis and UAGM were recently released on SCORE, and PMU and ES on Live At Budokan, so I didn't feel the need to include them.

New to an official live release would be: all the ADTOE songs (7 of them), "These Walls", "The Great Debate", "Wait For Sleep", and "The Count Of Tuscany".
"Caught In A Web", "Peruvian Skies", and "Ytse Jam" would be released again since their appearance on OILAT (which has had many songs re-released on the past few live albums) - the former two (CIAW and PS) are two of FOUR (the other 2 are TAMP and Lie) songs not yet re-released from OILAT, while every other track/song has been re-released on successive live albums (it's like they were trying to replace them slowly...)
"The Silent Man" would return but in it's original/acoustic form, as well as "Learning To Live", and "Through My Words/Fatal Tragedy" since their appearance on LSFNY.

There are no repeat songs from CIM, SCORE or LAB, which is pretty good, and I think the band chose a good pool of songs to reflect that if they choose to release anything from this tour.

So that's my logic behind that. I liked keeping the flow of the first 9 songs on Disc 1 from the A-Setlist, (from BITS to TGD, excluding ES though), and then closing with the epic WFS/LTL combo, even though both tracks weren't played together on the tour, it seems right to stick them together (since they've never been presented as such - and this tour's version of LTL has a 'new' ending).
As for disc 2, I opened with OTBOA since it seems fitting, then went to CIAW (being a 'track 2', it fit well), then oddly enough it moved chronologically (SCORE-esque) through PS and TMW/FT. Then I re-created the ADTOE tracklist by placing "Outcry" behind the FFH/BAI combo, and even though THOSE songs weren't played together on tour, it also seems right to stick them together. Then it closes with the epic TCOT, which never saw a live release.

And speaking of songs from albums that haven't seen a live release, going backwards, this would leave the following unreleased:
BC&SL: All of it, except TCOT as noted above
SC: "Repentance" and "Prophets Of War"
8VM: "Never Enough" (although the entire album was released on DTIFC DVD Romavarium)
TOT: "Honor Thy Father"
SDOIT: "Misunderstood"
SFAM: None (Entire album released on LSFNY)
FII: "You Not Me", "Burning My Soul", "Hell's Kitchen", "Anna Lee"
Awake: "6:00", "Lifting Shadows Off A Dream", "Space-Dye Vest"
IAW: None (although the entire album released on DTIFC 15th Anniversary Bonn, Germany recording)
WDADU: "Status Seeker", "Light Fuse And Get Away", and "The Ones Who Help To Set The Sun" (Unless you count the entire album released on WDADR)

Counting only the albums fromAwake-SC, only 12 songs (out of 64) haven't been released live, which is pretty amazing for ANY band who has this much material! And many of those songs don't get played often (or in the case of a few, have NEVER been played live), so it's understandable why they aren't released (yet).

I would totally lay down a ton of money for a 2CD set like this, so I hope if any of the members of DT are reading this, keep this in mind!!! I have money for you if you release this as an album next year!!

-Marc.

I would also add "6:00" to the first disc, probably between "These Walls" and BMUBMD, as it's the only song in the new rotations of the current tour leg that hasn't been released on past live albums.

I could also include some of the newer rotation tracks on a "bonus" 3rd disc with the following pieces (in any order), even though all but AFIL have seen release in the last 3 live albums, in some form or another:
A Fortune In Lies
Surrounded
The Spirit Carries On
The Dark Eternal Night
Under A Glass Moon
Endless Sacrifice
As I Am
The Root Of All Evil

-Marc.

My setlist pick:

Dream Is Collapsing / Intro
Bridges In The Sky
6:00
Build Me Up, Break Me Down
Surrounded
The Dark Eternal Night
Drum Solo
A Fortune In Lies
Wait For Sleep
Far From Heaven
Outcry

-- Intermission --

These Walls
Peruvian Skies
The Great Debate
On The Backs Of Angels
Forsaken
Through My Words
Fatal Tragedy
Breaking All Illusions

-- Encore Break --

Beneath The Surface

-- 2nd Encore --

The Count Of Tuscany

And then you'd break that up into the appropriate number of discs, etc. I left out a few songs (Root Of All Evil, Endless Sacrifice, The Spirit Carries On) because they've all appeared on earlier releases. I included Fatal Tragedy because it didn't feel right leave out Scenes entirely, and I like that song quite a bit anyway.

I took A Fortune In Lies over Ytse Jam because, well, I like it more. I included the WFS/FFH combo over TSM/BTS because they already played The Silent Man on Live Scenes, but I'd love them to include Beneath The Surface (hence the "fake" encore, don't know if they'd actually do something like that).

I picked The Count Of Tuscany for the encore over the other choices (Metropolis, As I Am, Learning To Live, etc), because all those songs have already appeared on a live release, and the Count hasn't. Finally, I included a couple songs from Chaos In Motion (Forsaken, TDEN) because, quite frankly, that particular release is terrible, and those songs deserve a better representation.

OK, maybe not, but still.

JP said that another NA tour is still not definite. It would be during the summer though

I don't care what they put on the audio release but I'd like the DVD/BluRay to be one of the U.S set lists from the 2011 tour and with the rotating songs as bonus features.
