Hey.
Just read it and there's nothing really to highlight, except JP's intention to write a new solo album.
Overall it's a good interview, if you have a few spare minutes.
Enjoy!

"...with new drummer Mark Mangini"?
:rollin
Way to fact check, guys!

TAC

In the part where he talks about the band's identity and the influences, do you think he is basically saying that he wasn't happy with the band's recent direction before ADTOE?
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

No. I get the impression he's saying that despite how much they have changed and tried new things, that they've always maintained their core sound. I think you're reading a bit much into it.

The 8th drummer was a new-comer named Mark...........P...eart....noy..............

He looked suspiciously like Mike Portnoy, except that he had a moustache and glasses.

The 8th drummer was JP's penis.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I liked that even though the interviewer was totally bashing Mike in the way he asked the questions, JP was still really respectful. That was cool.

Back to the article, nice to have been in attendance for Mangini's public hazing.

Hello, my name is Mr... Yontrop. And I come from someplace... far, far away! Yes, that'll do.

Millais

actually one of the better interviews in a while, wasn't all concentrated on MP and was looking more towards the future than the past. good stuff.

Pinga

I really love that, in interviews, JP strikes a perfect balance between giving out and withholding information at the risk of not sounding disrespectful. I'm very glad he's the band's spokesman.

The 8th drummer was Triangle Guy

"new Mike"  - "old Mike"  - "original Mike" terms kinda annoyed me and found the below question really disturbing
"Jeb: With Mangini being the rookie, did you make him earn his stripes? Was there any hazing?" but other than that, a really nice interview overall.. thanks for posting!

No problem, glad you and others liked it.
I agree with the terms the interviewer used to describe Portnoy and Mangini.
Both are over 40 years old, so he should have used only the "old" prefix (just kidding here)  ;D
About the rookie thing, I slightly disagree. If you're the new member, you have to give your best impression to the others.
Of course, Mangini's talent and resume already played a big part in this impression.

BlobVanDam

Let's settle this once and for all - Mangini can be New Mike, and Portnoy can be Mike Classic.*

*does not imply that New Mike tastes bad, or that Mike Classic will return in a few years. lol
