A friend of mine wanted to get into DT so I made him a 4 disc compilation spanning their whole catalog. He and I like basically the same kind of music(Classic prog, metal, etc.), so I know he's gonna like it. Just curious of you all's thoughts on the tracklisting I chose.

Disc 1
A Fortune in Lies
Afterlife
Pull Me Under
Learning to Live
Caught in a Web
Innocence Faded
Peruvian Skies
Lines in the Sand
Beyond This Life
Through Her Eyes

Disc 2
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence(All 8 Parts)
As I Am
Vacant
In the Presence of Enemies Pt.1
Forsaken

Disc 3
I Walk Beside You
Octavarium
Wither
A Nightmare to Remember
On the Backs of Angels
Breaking All Illusions

Disc 4
A Change of Seasons
The Way It Used to Be
Cover My Eyes
To Live Forever
Speak to Me

Too much? Too little? Should I swap out some songs for others? I wanted to keep it to 2 songs per album(6DOIT being an exception).

A great list, you could have brought him their greatest hits and saved yourself the effort.

Good list but you might want to rearrange it. If his first impression of DT is AFIL and Afterlife, he might be disinclined to take them seriously.

This isn't a bad idea. Put Pull Me Under first or something.

Metro

Eh. I could of. But I like making compilations. Plus the Greatest Hit album doesn't include WDaDU, SC, or ADTOE.

A Fortune in Lies is actually the only song he's heard from them(He likes it). That's one of the reasons why I put it first.

Well, if he likes it, then I think the list is great  :metal

I made one for my friend, except it was nothing but their heaviest songs. He's a metal fan.

SystematicThought

Anything is better than the CD I made for a friend.

Disc 2 was:
The Glass Prison
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
The Count of Tuscany.

I scared him off  :lol

Has he heard the LATM version?  I'll bet he would like that better than the WDADU original.

I don't tolerate completation seekers. I have made 4 devoted DT fans so far in my life time and it all came by sitting them down in my car and forcing them to listen to entire albums while we crusie or the easier way; sitting them down and forcing them to watch LSFNY or L@B.
Instrumedley from L@B, if you don't have time or they're too impatient, would bag them fast.

Actually yeah. Maybe you should just get your friend SFAM or IAW...probably SFAM.

Sorry, but I would NOT want 4 CD's of music of a band I don't know to sift through.  Just give me a small selection with some variety and go from there.  I understand you're passionate about DT, most of us are, but this is just way too much.

Estiui

Sorry but I don't like your selection. I can't give WDADU as much value as I&W, for example, so I would not put 2 songs of each CD. Also, IMO, the song selection of each of it could have been better. And as I've just read, if you want to introduce your friend to DT, I think it's better to do it step by step, and IMO SFAM would be a great start.
