And don't forget among all those great talents the mighty Tommy Emmanuel. The Hunt, The Robin, Endless Road...

B.Lee

I saw Emmanuel last year, out of all the musicians I've seen in my lifetime he is the best performer, without a doubt.

No one comes alive and makes the songs come alive like he does.

QuoteDream Theater is excited to announce a unique treat for our fans! During the December leg of our current world tour, spectacular acoustic finger style guitarist Andy McKee will be our special guest for the San Diego and Anaheim shows in California, the Mesa Arizona show, and three shows in Mexico: Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City. We're sure everyone at these shows will appreciate his instrumental mastery as much as we do.

I only wish I could be there to see it!
Im extremely jealous of any who gets to see any of these shows  :hefdaddy

So I am wondering if he is opener or jamming with or both.   Seems like a treat either way

That's the first thing that came to my mind.  :-\

I suppose typing out Andy McKee would be too much to ask.

ddtonfire

What a great opportunity for him! This is fantastic. I'm really appreciating these upcoming artists getting to open for DT.

nattmorker

Ah! This is great!!! I already got my tickets for the Guadalajara concert so I'm seeing Andy McKee aswell, that seems great! Can't wait, this is gonna be my second time seeing DT!

Ezio

Going to the Mesa date. Excited!  Though what I'm confused about is whether it's just like DT and him doing a special thing or him actually opening up? Because the Mesa date was supposedly from what I read "An evening with".

Guitalguy

Awesome! I actually discovered Andy before DT. I haven't listened to much of his stuff, but I remember watching a few videos and being impressed. And that wicked awesome weird guitar of his. Too bad i won't be able too see this, but I guess we'll see some videos afterwards.

TheOutlawXanadu

This is awesome! So jealous of everyone going to see them in December!

XB0BX

That's an odd mishmash of styles. When I saw his weird rhythmic acoustic guitar playing, the last thing I thought it would fit with would be progressive metal.

YtseJamittaja

Wow! This man can play acustic guitar!!  :tup :tup

But he's not the only one who can play drums with guitar, here's Petteri Sariola who is a mind-blowing guitarist (and guitar drummer):

I'd rather see random, relatively unknown prodigies at a DT show than more metal. I think it fits, at least for the more prog-inclined fans.

Next tour I think Buke & Gass should open.  ;)

Wow it surprises me how so few people know Andy McKee here

I live in the country with no high speed internet available; my connection is slow.  This forum runs relatively fast for me though (thanks Bosk!).  It is hard to find new music with a slow connection.  Previously I served in the Navy on submarines; no connection under the water obviously.  Believe it or not, I actually only recently discovered Dream Theater.  I was working out in a Navy gym, and heard Constant Motion on the speaker system.  I went to the front desk to find out who this band was.  The lady didn't know; she said I would have to wait until her relief arrived whose job it was to program the music.  I waited 30 minutes for the guy; he turned out to be the Captain's son (only a teenager).  He told me about DT.  A couple weeks later I owned every DT CD.

Good story man. Welcome to the forums and very glad to have you with us.

Flawless solo (https://youtu.be/s7GFhgfsNI8) Cant wait to see this guy play with them in Anaheim.... or is he opening? I don't know. Either way, cant wait.

First post.

Progmetty

Oh I know that guy. He was famous for having a conversation with someone on a torrent site that was offering his album for download. It went something like "hey downloaders you suck! just buy my album so i don't have to work at Walmart anymore" and the downloader really giving it to him straight explaining that much less people would have ever heard of him if it wasn't for torrents and illegal downloading.
But damn I remember that from like 5 years ago, I just realized it was him after I checked some of the youtube links posted here.
He's good but Rodrigo y Gabriela put on a much more impressive show. As far as watching a finger stylist playing for more than 10 minutes can be impressive.
But better than Trivium that's for sure :lol

Awesome for Andy McKee, I wish I could go to one of those shows.

I saw Andy McKee this past year and he puts on a great show, those who haven't seen him are in for a real treat.

Also I saw him play with 25 other people so I'm also excited he is getting some great exposure.

So Andy McKee did an AMA today in Reddit.com

Here's the specific part regarding Dream Theater.
https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/p4s50/iama_acoustic_guitarist_named_andy_mckee_ama/c3mhziz

Q: How is touring with Dream Theater? With two epic guitar players in close proximity I find it hard to believe there hasn't been some sort of tear in the space-time-continum. (P.S. I've seen you at the Sheffield Boardwalk twice with Don Ross. They were truly magical nights!)

A: It was like a Dream Theater come true! crickets

It was seriously awesome. The guys were all really cool and Jordan, JP and I all jammed in Mexico City at the hotel. Something might come of it...

Interesting!

As some of you are realizing this, it makes me think that I'm not the only one who thinks this would a great collaboration anymore :hat

OK, I'm convinced. I mean, I find it hard to believe that DT would do a collaboration with another artist since they've never done it before, but it'd be an awesome idea and, given the slim chance that it does happen, I'd imagine it'd be one of the best things DT have ever done. But, given this guy, no matter who the collaboration is with it is sure to be awesome.

I'm gonna get one of this guy's albums from the Amazon MP3 store... which, though?
