Well that's an ....... interesting choice of song.

And thanks for posting it. :tup

It felt kind of weird to see MP play LITS without the rest of DT.

Choosing LITS doesn't really send the message that MP is past DT yet, whether he is or not. I do see the basis for the decision, as you've got 2 ex-members of DT who played on that song, but it was still an odd choice for a one off jam. Did they play anything else, or just this?

I am just happy that MP is playing DT stuff! Looking forward to see more!

LITS instrumental, cool song with a cool intrumental part in the album DS and MP played together... if it had to be some DT material (as prob eveybody were expecting!)... good choice!

Wow! Very cool! I was already looking forward to that DVD, but now totally.

I'm expecting some Planet X songs too, since they're saying that they're playing stuff out of the others' careers. Oh, and some Derek solostuff too. I'd love to hear MP drum that!

Is this the first time he's performed DT songs since 2010?

Anyway, cool stuff. I wouldn't mind this being a full-time band.

McAlpine obviously could have rehearsed a little more, but he's still pretty amazing.

These videos are bringing a massive smile to my face, but I can't quite tell if they're brilliant or a little tragic.

They've got half of DT there, and it's wonderful to see Derek and Mike playing Dream Theater songs in 2011 - let alone together for the first time in, what, eight years? It's great to see half the Falling Into Infinity lineup being every bit as brilliant as they were in 1997. But at the same time... they are very conspicuous by their absence from DT. Then again, they're just at a clinic, aren't they? It's not a proper gig. Just a bit of a laugh. And in fairness, they'll all be plundering their back catalogues.

It's probably a combination, isn't it? Fantastic with just a twinge of tragedy. Ah, who cares. I love it!

Just before I get flamed let me say that Tony Macalpine is one of my favourite guitar players and Maximum Security possibly my fav Guitar album ever but on Lines in the Sand he just didnt do it for me.

Did anyone know the setlist?
Stratus - Jeff Beck
Hell's Kitchen
LiTS (very abbreviated instrumental sections)

They played under 20 minutes as part of a large drummers showcase. This was done with one day's rehearsal on Friday. Looking forward to the NAMM performance where they will get a much longer set.

He was.  Stylistically, I still like him best of the three.

the EZ board elders at this site really do have some of the strongest well thought out opinions.
outstanding.

Thought this might be sarcasm, as my remark is pretty short and to the point, but Ytse's an EZBoard Elder same as me, so... I'm still not sure whether or not it was sarcasm.

But I didn't just love Derek's work with DT, what little of it there is; I loved how he fit into their sound. A little more edge and fire than Kevin, plenty of balls, but not too over-the-top as Jordan can get sometimes.  And I just like his patches.  His overall style fit into DT better for me than either Kevin or Jordan.
