Pretty simple...

A Dramatic Turn Of Events
Your Most Favorite Track From Each DT Album Prior to ADTOE

The Letter M

Okay, now that the results of my other poll are pretty unanimous, I've been curious about the other-way around.

If you could make a compilation with your favorite track from each of DT's first 10 albums (WDADU through BC&SL), would you pick THAT, or go with ADTOE?

Rules - Yes, SDOIT can count as one track, and if you feel so inclined, you can count AMBI as one as well (especially if it tips the balance towards the compilation, just to make things interesting). You *CAN* include "A Change Of Seasons", but you must give up a track from IAW. Likewise, you can include FII-session B-Sides but they will count as your FII song.

ADTOE is my 3rd favourite DT album now, but it can't compare with a compilation of my favourite tracks from all the other albums.

I think it would only be a close fight if it was Images and Words up against my album favourites.

Here's my list anyway:
The Killing Hand
Metropolis
Voices
Trial of Tears
Beyond This Life
The Glass Prison
In the Name of God
Octavarium
In the Presence of Enemies
The Count of Tuscany
Breaking All Illusions (if it's allowed :D)
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

No offense to ADTOE, but this is a no-brainer for me.  It's a great album vs. the best of ten great albums.

Compilation easily.

?

This is so tough that I can't vote - ADTOE is a great album with no fillers at all and while many of my fave songs from the back catalogue beat most ADTOE songs, I'm not sure if a compilation of them could beat ADTOE as an entity.

Pretty much this.

This. ADTOE is a really solid album, but my favourite song from each album would easily beat it. Even my favourite song from SDOIT alone would win this one.

What everyone above said. And here is how that CD would go

1. Only a Matter of Time
2. Learning to Live
3. Voices
4. Hell's Kitchen
5. Strange Deja Vu
6. Blind Faith
7. In The Name of God
8. Octavarium
9. In the Presence of Enemies
10. The Best of Times

Phoenix87x

I would still take ADTOE, because its a consistent and cohesive album which I love from beginning to end.

Where as the playlist has songs from every different era which for me would conflict with each other. I like to just listen each album on their own from beginning to end.

1. Only a Matter of time
2. Learning to Live
3. Scarred
4. Hell's Kitchen
5. The Dance of Eternity
6. Blind faith
7. This Dying Soul
8. These walls
9. In the Presence of Enemies
10. The count of Tuscany

Vivace

When Dream and Day Unite: Light Fuse and Get Away.
Images and Words: Under a Glass Moon
Awake: Scarred
Falling Into Infinity: Anna Lee
Scenes from a Memory: Fatal Tragedy
6 Degrees: Misunderstood (except for the last 3 minutes)
Train of Thought: As I Am
Octavarium: These Walls
Systematic Chaos: Ministry of Lost Souls
Black Clouds: The Count of Tuscany

Special Mention of A Change of Seasons from the EP

RuRoRul

Apart from a weak opening (since I don't really like WDADU at all), the other album would be absolutely amazing. The only problem it would have would be being far too long.

Also, I know these polls are just for interest, but I'd say they are very pointless. The only way someone would choose basically all of their least favourite DT songs over ADTOE is if they absolutely hated ADTOE and loved every other DT album so much that even they even loved their least favourite songs, and the only way someone would choose ADTOE over basically all their favourite DT songs is if they absolutely love ADTOE and hated every other DT album so much that they didn't even like their favourite songs from them. So both of these polls were always going to give around 90-10% result, which isn't really very interesting at all and barely tell us anything about the reception of ADTOE.

johncal

That's like asking if an All-Star football team can beat the team that just won the Superbowl. On paper the All-Star team should still be better but the cohesiveness of the Superbowl winning team would make up for that.

Would almost be a toss up.

Although the cohesiveness of ADTOE would be a definite plus, the other album has Octavarium... and SDOIT... and Voices...

Uh, compilation wins.

Dimitrius

This is not even a contest, IMO.

A compilation of my favorite tracks from each album before will always win.

Bongasti

Both of these topics are pretty ridiculous. Of course the compilation wins this one.

black_biff_stadler

This is like choosing condom vs. no condom:

Ytse Jam
Metropolis
Scarred
Lines in the Sand
Fatal Tragedy
The Glass Prison
This Dying Soul
Panic Attack
The Dark Eternal Night
A Nightmare to Remember

toro

This thread is even worst than the other one  :lol anyways

1.- Only A Matter Of Time
2.- Learning To Live
3.- Scarred
4.- Trial Of Tears
5.- Home
6.- Blind Faith
7.- In The Name Of God
8.- Octavarium
9- Repentance
10- Dah Count

So it's, a no contest.  I love ADTOE but come on.

FlyingBIZKIT

1. Only A Matter Of Time
2. Learning To Live
3. Scarred
4. Lines In The Sand
5. Finally Free
6. Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
7. Vacant
8. Octavarium
9. Repentance
10. The Count Of Tuscany

^ This over ADTOE.

Might I ask what the OP thinks these two polls have proven? Has it really given us any great insight that people prefer ADTOE to a collection of bad tracks, but a collection of favorite tracks to ADTOE?

darkshade

Another Won

Eh, just a bit'o'fun really. And it's also a way to see what people view as their favorite or least-favorite tracks without just blatantly asking. Also, it kind of points out the few, often non-vocal minorities who would choose the less-likely option, not that there's anything wrong with that.

It also shows that ADTOE has such broad appeal and isn't one of the band's more polarizing albums (I'm looking at you, Train Of Thought), so hopefully this means it has staying power and remains a fan-favorite for decades to come (like IAW and SFAM).

-Marc.

Jarzombek

An album with these songs would be much better than ADTOE.

Fortune In Lies
Metropolis Pt.1
The Mirror
Trail Of Tears
Dance of Eternity
The Glass Prison
In The Name Of God
Octavarium
In The Presence Of Enemies
A Nightmare To Remember

Oh.  In that case...

Afterlife
Take the Time
Caught in a Web
Lines in the Sand
Scene Two - Overture 1928 + Strange Deja Vu  (or Home, if I'm not allowed to choose Scene Two as one song)
Misunderstood
In the Name of God
Octavarium
In The Presence of Enemies
The Count of Tuscany

energythief

Metrovarium

Only A Matter of Time
Metropolis
Scarred
Lines in the Sand
Fatal Tragedy
SDOIT
This Dying Soul
Octavarium
ITPOE
The Count of Tuscany

This album would not only require a triple album to fit on a CD, it would also be many, many times better than ADTOE. I love the new album, but this is a no-brainer, really.

ZirconBlue

At first, I thought this was a no-brainer.  It seems obvious that a compilation of my favorite songs from the other albums should beat just about any given individual album.  But, then I thought about how, when I actually have created DT compilation albums in the past.  Despite them containing all of my favorite DT songs, I still ended up liking them less than the actual albums themselves.  I think there's a flow to an album that gets lost when you just pick out all the high points.

This.  But FWIW, here is my compilation:

The Killing Hand
Metropolis (I actually rank ACOS ahead of Metropolis, but it just seems wrong not to include anything from I&W)
Scarred
Lines In The Sand
Home
Six Degrees
In The Name Of God
Octavarium
In The Presence of Enemies
A Nightmare To Remember

Yeah, I mean, ADTOE is great.  But come on.

What he said  :hat

Ħ

I understand that ADTOE is a very fresh album, especially coming off of SC and BCSL, but, after really letting it sink in, I'm not too impressed.  I like most of the songs.  I even love one or two.  But it's got nothin' on anything before and including SDOIT.  So I'm definitely going with the "favorite track from each album" option.
