Let's say, somehow, a compilation featuring the best songs from all of Dream Theater members' solo albums and collaborations was made. What would you put in this Best Of album?

Here are the rules:

I. A song from any solo album is fine

II. An album besides solo albums featuring more than 1 member of DT (past or present) can be included. (ex. Liquid Tension Experiment, Explorer's Club, MullMuzzler, OSI, Platypus, etc...)

III. An album of another band or artist that features more than 1 member, but only the songs they are featured on (ex. Neal Morse's "?" album)

IV. Bands and artists such as Transatlantic, Planet X, Neal Morse, Fates Warning, and whoever else I am forgetting, should not really be used because they are farther away from Dream Theater than the prior acts, but I'm not going to stop you if you must have something by these guys on your list.

So have at it. I'll add my list later on.

Oh! Intersting variation!

1. Shores of Avalon
2. Venice Burning
3. Beyond Tomorrow
4. Head
5. Osmosis
6. The Escape Artist
7. Drop the Gun /
8. Allison
9. Invisible
10. A View from the Sky
11. Duel with the Devil
12. The River Song

That looks about right for length, doesn't it? Mostly short songs with a longish one tacked on? By Mullmuzzler, Mullmuzzler, Jordan Rudess, OSI, Liquid Tension Experiment, OSI, The Jelly Jam / The Jelly Jam, James LaBrie, Derek Sherinian, Transatlantic and Derek Sherinian. In that order.

I was gonna throw in Confronting the Devil, too, but there comes a point in every man's life when you've got to take a look at yourself and think "does this tracklisting for a theoretical best-of album use the word 'Devil' too often?" And for me, today, that answer was "yes."

Also, I kept wanting to throw Karma Police in. Literally no idea. Just a little refrain at the back of my head going "Put it in! PUT IT IN!!" So let's say that's a bonus track.

I've probably missed off a million fantastic songs - probably entire bands - but my CD collection's on the other side of the room and damn if I'm getting out of bed at 10:35 AM on Christmas Eve. Not happening! Plus I was trying to keep it balanced - not too many instrumental tracks, don't use Acid Rain or Biaxident when you've not used a JR solo song yet - frankly, it's a logistical nightmare. Think of it as a first draft. Pending further, er, tinkering. (As in, when I see everyone else's lists and nick their good ideas.)

EDIT: Ohhh!! Mythology, by Derek Sherinian!! That's a fantastic album. TINKER TIME!

EDIT2: Incidentally, with the addition of Derek, I've just realised that every Dream Theater member's represented, past and present, with the sole exception of Charlie Dominici. Total accident. But a pleasant one. Hurrah. Although it is now probably overlong.

Thanks Rob for your contribution.

No one else is into this???

This is such a cool idea... the thought of it is just a tad overwhelming, I'll try and come up with something.

*snip*

tl;dnr because ROBWEBSTER IS BACK!  BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!

On topic: I only know JLB's last two albums, Transatlantic, Jelly Jam 2, The Road Home, Suspended Animation, and LTE.  With all the stuff they've done I don't think I could make a mix of it.
