I might be in the minority here and don't think normally, but I sort of see DT as one entity in the genuine sense of a band. Without each other as a band they are all just great musicians and nothing more. So, I like them each equally when it comes to Dream Theater. However, being a guitarist, I find myself partial to... Well... Take a guess? lol.

LOL ..... what?  So, none of them have any personalities or any other interesting qualities as human beings?  :lol

CrimsonSunrise

I think I relate the most personality wise to James.  When I did my first Meet and Greet (where we actually got to talk to the guys for about 45 mins)  he was the one I found myself being most relaxed with.  Great guy.  JP and Jordan were awesome too.

CodyWanKenobi

Hmmm. Well, at first thought it would be JP, but then I think about what a sweet guy JR seems like, and what a cool guy JLB is, and how kind MM seems and how... well, we don't know much about JM.. but damn that guy sure loves his bass. haha. Idk. I'd probably have to pick JP because I'm a guitar player and I feel like we'd have more in common than the others, but MM would be a close second and JLB and JR would be tied for third.

And it's not that I don't like JM, I just know NOTHING about him. haha.

Wonderful band of guys though. They really deserve eachother man. :)
My latest concept album "IV: Timber" IS OUT NOW!

LOL good one, man. You really thought out your response well. Because when I'm at a DT concert and watching Petrucci playing, I'm thinking "Man, this guy has such interesting qualities and a tremendous personality." I was speaking in regards to them as a band.

?

Probably Jordan, he seems like a really nice guy and I play keys too.

I'm honestly not trying to be sarcastic here, but.... why?  The question was.... "which member would you like to hang out with?"  I just don't understand where you're coming from.... that's all.

There's also a question in the Subject line "Who's your favorite member of DT?" which I answered. As an upstanding citizen of the human race, I have free reign to inject anything I care to that I find to be relevant, based around the original subject. It's part of my personal concept of free speech I suppose. lol.

I was a bit indirect in answering the question within the post though. Sorry about that! I'd love to actually someday catch all the members of DT after a show and invite them all to some awesome expensive restaurant to just chill on my dime. I'm sure Mangini would jump at this since he said he loves fine food!

Jordan IS a really nice guy.  They all are.
I'd say that my favorite is James though. :hefdaddy

I am literaly unable to choose here, as I really like them all in their diversity. Maybe maybe James and Jordan, but that won't do justice to how much I like JP, JM and MM as musicians and as human beings.

James LaBrie. He seems like... not the goofiest member, per se, but - well, yeah, alright, the goofiest member. But that's fine. Fun. Good. I pick goofy friends. And my friends must, too, 'cos I'm friends with them. And James LaBrie, crucially, seems like he'd be just as much use in a conversation about philosophy as he would in one about what the hell Professor Utonium was trying to make little girls for. With everyone else I'd feel like I had to talk about music, or their careers, and I'd call them "Mr. Petrucci" and say "thank you" a lot. But with James LaBrie I'd be totally comfortable speaking utter drivel of all orders, which is good. He's quickwitted, interesting, and incredibly funny. Good man to have a pint with.

Oh, totally, but the right to free speech also encompasses the right for everyone else to give you funny looks if you exercise it with gay abandon.

And mine to wade into other people's conversations uninvited and patronise everyone within a three post radius. Why am I still allowed around here, again? Carry on...

I was lucky enough to hang out for a while with Jordan in Caracas, back in 2006, when he was taken there to play with the Rudess Morgenstein Project. We even had a chance to walk together for a bit, and I loved the guy! He has a really positive aura and transmits this energy. I also think I'd get along really well with James LaBrie.

I've never met him in person so that's why I used "seems" - I'm sure all of them are nice people.

reneranucci

Mike Portnoy. From the current lineup, I'd choose Jordan.

Good man. I like the way you think. Oh, I never really get bothered with the funny looks. I usually just in turn stick my tongue out at them and cross my eyes. Actually, the previous sentence was a complete lie. It's silly to be bothered by such trivial things that in the end, have no real genuine consequence.

John Petrucci.......both times I've met him, I felt we could've talked for hours lol

DTFan0789

Absolutely, positively, Mr. James LaBrie.  :yarr

It's funny, I'm a guitarist, so I knew "of" DT because of Petrucci, but it was actually James' vocals that got me heavily immersed into their music.

Like others have already said, James just seems like he has a really goofy sense of humor (which I can relate to), and I feel like I'd be able to talk to him about anything under the sun.

Ruba

James, John Petrucci and Derek Sherinian.

If I really have to pick it would be the Wizard

how about James or John (P) ... or Portnoy? lol  :P

Being a guitar player, I'd love a chance to hang out with Petrucci for a while and "talk shop"

N4Player

John Petrucci. He is the reason I started listening to Dream Theater in the first place. After meeting him this year, my fanboyism has increased that much more.

ColdFireYYZ

Jordan. He seems like he's the most personable and I'm a keyboardist too.

There's also a first post which in its first sentence explains the context in which the subject question was meant. :P

Nekov

Mike Portnoy has always been my favorite member of DT. From the current lineup, I'd choose Jordan cause he is obviously the funniest guy and being the oldest probably makes him wiser too.
