I would love a new DVD. Especially if they include an extras disc with Learning to Live from High Voltage on there.

a one show hi-def dvd with the crazy crowds in south america would rule. watch Rush in Rio for example, that crowd is unreal.

The only problem with doing a show in SA is that at least up until now, whenever they've gone down there, they've taken their scaled back "B-rig" as it's  apparently was too expensive to bring the "A-rig". So if they were to continue doing so and shoot the show there, you wouldn't get the cool visuals you're used to seeing at shows in North America, Europe and Japan. Sure the crowd would help offset that, but part of the documenting of a tour is the visuals that go with it. I for one would only want them to film a show for official release in SA if they brought their full rig with them, otherwise, shoot it in another place where they normally take their A-rig and have crazy fans too - Italy comes to mind.

Yes, please.

In summer 2004 the band played an open air show in Florence, on the top of a hill just hundreds of meters away from the Uffizi and the Duomo, in full city of all the city. The band openly praised the environment on that occasion. That being said, wouldn't it be amazing if they were to film and outdoor show in some great architectural environment? A sort of Live At Pompei with a real show and a real crowd.

Italy and Greece come to mind.  ::)

Otherwise, Live At Wembley will do very, very fine ;)

John94

The scene at Lorelei in Germany would also make for a great DVD. But, it would need to be in the summer of course!

KevShmev

I thought Mangini said he was learning a bunch of new (to him) songs for the 2012 shows, so if the set list changes quite a bit, if they do decide to do a live DVD, and it comes from a 2012 show, it might feature a handful of songs that haven't been played yet.  I wouldn't mind a 5 Years in a Livetime-type release, showing their journey over the road from last summer through this coming summer with many songs from different shows.  I normally hate when bands put other stuff in between songs, but only when the concert footage is all the same show.  Doing it the way they did on 5YIAL would work really well.  Plus, it would give them a chance to put on there some songs that were played this year that maybe won't be played when the new year rolls around.

fadetoblackdude7

Yeah, they definitely need to film a DVD for this tour......1 show, with a sizable venue, and have that visual production really shine.  :tup

it should be two concerts DVD

1) Summer tour in EU/UK, in particular Headlining HVF 2011 in London, I am sure there is footage fo this... and ELP put out their headlining show of 2010 as a live DVD, so it is not impossible... but I am being extremely optimistic I know... (I was there, and it was an amazing performance)

2) the proper ADTOE support tour, this can be from anywhere, but MAnchester Apollo on Feb 9, 2011 would be the obvious choice  ;)

I'm up for that. I'd buy a new shirt and get a shave too!

Their dvds do well usually so I would have thought financially it would make sense.

chrisbDTM

the new songs need to be on film. BITS, LNF (if they add it to next tour), Outcry, BAI, etc.

Solution:  Main set is a European show.  Bonus footage is a partial or full S.A. show.

FTFY.  ;)

We also need songs that haven't been filmed from BCSL - TCOT and ANTR.

The Silent Cody

I would love to see new DVD, but from one show, not like CiM. Setlist was almost the same on every show so it will be almost no difference from what venue it will be, but I personally, would love to see a DVD from some smaller place ;)

The only problem with Wembley is that this year it will be all seated, and it's not selling that well if i'm not wrong (and so wasn't that well attended that show in Florence you've mentioned). Buenos Aires seems to be a very strong place for them - 2 sold out nights in a row (8000 people each) in 2010.
The Bucharest venue from which they've taken the 2002 Ytsejam Bootleg was perfect.

cramx3

The Bucharest venue was very cool, but theyve been there, done that. I wouldnt mind something similar though, and definitely one full concert witt bonus footage from other shows.

antigoon

I would buy it if it had audio commentary! I loved those so much.

RaiseTheKnife

As mentioned, I feel it important that a live DVDalso represent some of the gems from BC&SL, although I don't foresee ANTR being included as it was not in rotation on the current tour, and I doubt the DVD will include tracks from pre-MM shows.

ColdFireYYZ

I wish they recorded the NYC show since it was my first show. I'm also hoping for behind the scenes footage and a bunch of bonus material.

I hope they do a show in South America for blu-ray release.

Only if there's an isolated band audio track so I can mute the crowd.  I absolutely hate how crowds in SA and Europe sing along to everything even if it's just music and no words.  I can't even enjoy Rush in Rio cuz of the crowd.

I love the energy and the size of the fans, but I just wish they'd shut up.  Go ahead and sing with the words but don't chant the guitar solos and the piano breaks, ok?  Thanks.

Unless Portnoy ever does return to the band, good luck getting them to ever play ANTR as is ever again.  I could see a part of it becoming part of a medley at some point, but I'd be surprised if they ever play all of it again.  Rudess in an interview a while back didn't seem overly positive about it, and the "day after day" part is a huge stain on it that probably makes them say, "Screw it, we can dedicate 16 minutes to a much better overall song than this."

You're silly.  Loud crowds are awesome, and the crowd is a big reason why the Rush Rio concert is so incredible.

True, but what if they had JLB during that section reach out to the crowd and have them sing the part. Besides, what did they  do for TCOT? since there is some harsh vocals on that one.
Or just have the band play up til the guitar/keys duel, or after it. It's a shame it may not get an official live version, same with The Glass Prison.

Black Clouds & Silver Linings got kinda dicked over as far as playing most of the material live.

KevShmev

I am surprised they haven't busted out Wither yet this tour.

This.  And it would be a welcome change from the way DT live albums were normally mixed, were James would shout "COME ON SING ALONG!" and you wouldn't hear any crowd noise.  I doubt DT fans are THAT boring haha.

Yes it did. :(
At the very least they need to film TCOT for an official release. They should really do ANTR too, but they likely won't unfortunately. That song slays live. Every other album is well represented on their live DVDs, and so should BCASL.

darkshade

Yes, at the least, get TCOT in there, either at the show, or as a bonus song.

This thread reminds me of how disappointed I was that MP left because of the fact that we wouldn't get the 12Step Suite. I know some people don't care, but I had been looking forward to that performance since I first got into DT; around 2003.

jcmistat

Don't know if DT could ever get as big crowd as Rush did in Rio but yeah huge crowds are amazing.

I'm not sure if I want to see a multi city or a one show. I like CiM but the only thing dragging it down is the footage/sounds quality. This tour has amazing lighting and everyone especially James is sounding top notch. If there isn't a live album I'll be a sad man but seeing them this tour was just too good. That Peruvian Skies video is just teasing me so hard.

I agree with TCOT being needed.

If they don't record a show in South America they should record one in Canada or Europe. Montreal would be awesome.

Jarzombek

They should record the new BD/DVD here in Brazil! the crowd here is amazing! And that makes the show be even more fun!

m0hawk

As long as we have a Budokan/Score quality vid of TCOT, I'll be very happy  :D

I will only buy it if it has so energy and so power.

Pinga

I would like a release involving two or three shows, so that a lot of material gets crammed, and there's room to choose the best performances. It shouldn't include many performances, or it might turn into the clusterfucks like Chaos in Motion and 5 Years in a Livetime.

John94

ANTR solution = include Manginis full audition tracks on the bonus content.

I would just have James sing the "Day after day" part, like he did on the ....demo?... that MP released a while back.

Or, release a CD/DVD set of the last show MP did with Dream Theater, which features all four of the songs they played live from BC&SL, as well as "Prophets Of War" and the PMU/Metropolis medley, all of which have never seen official release. Then we get ALL of those songs on a live release and wouldn't have to worry about cluttering up a new live album with those songs with MM on it.

Although I wouldn't mind having a great rendition of TCOT with MM on drums. :tup

Has there been any indication that JP or the other guys have said that they weren't going to be playing the 12 step suite all live together? I know that JP really likes those songs, so I'd say its certainly possible. Unless one of the guys has said otherwise and i've missed their comment.

That would be great. I still think that was a missed opportunity for the bonus DVD with the album, so they should do that. I don't care if there are mistakes or whatever. That's half the fun.
