This is of course this guy's take on things, but I thought the same when I found out Mike was leaving.

Seems the majority of DTF'ers got it right AGAIN, even without all the details.

Pretty much what we already knew, but it's cool that he shed some light on a few more details.  So, again, what they had agreed to was that Mike was going to fill in for the first part of the tour only; he assumed that it might turn into something more; A7X moved forward with the original plan that everyone had agreed to.  That's basically what it boiled down to.

This interview just totally wasn't necessary, by the way.  He didn't say anything "wrong," but for crying out loud, let it frigging die already.  This issue is always right about to die and some asswipe (whether it be Portnoy or this guy or a fan asking one of them a question) has to start the whole thing all over again.  Okay, we get it.  Portnoy left DT to go play with Avenged Sevenfold and he screwed himself out of the band that he co-founded.  Sucks for him, but it's over.  It was over a year ago.  Why can't everyone just get the hell over it now?  These interviews are so redundant.

Dude, take a valium and a nap.  He was asked a rather obvious interview question and responded to it well.

Um, no.  What purpose did this interview serve?  To get MP all riled up?  To get the fans riled up?  Because, guess what?  That's all that's going to happen.  There was no reason for this..... he didn't say anything new.  It's just fuel for the fire.  DT was just nominated for a grammy and now we're going back to last year when all that BS was happening.  THIS is what's known as, "beating a dead horse."  Again - what's the point?  Maybe you could tell me after your nap?  :)

edit..

You know what..... whatever.  I don't care, if people want to relive it..... have fun, I don't have to click the thread, right?  :lol

Sorry, guys, carry on.

I think given what the band went through it was a rather good question, especially since the band hadn't said much on the issue. And it's not like it took up some great length of time or she pressed against his will, it took up maybe 2 minutes of a 25 minute interview.

Well, I mean... as DT fans we're very close to the source... possibly because of MP's heart-on-the-sleeve nature, so we find ourselves very clued in. From the perspective of the interview as an A7X interview... how are we to know that their fans weren't necessarily as clued in? It's could all be very useful information for them, as opposed to us.

Let me just reply to this one last thing and I'll drop it:  I know what you mean and I wasn't criticizing the Avenged Sevenfold guy at all.  I know that he was just answering a question and he did so very gracefully, might I add.  I'm just saying, overall, there's no point to this.  I guess I almost wish he had said, "eh, I'm tired of that topic, we already have talked about it, let's move on."  That's all.  But, I've said my piece.

Nice to confirm that all of our assumptions were correct. I feel bad for Mike having is expectations fall apart like that. No one to blame but himself though. I wonder if he asked to get back in with DT after he found this out?

He did say something new, to my knowledge. I don't think it's been so clearly stated by anyone involved before that he quit DT with the expectation that he'd be joining A7X.

Besides, the reason for this is the same reason that any interviewer asks a question - because they think they might get an answer that people will be interested in reading/hearing about. Just because it's stirring up the pot, again, in the DT fan community doesn't mean that it's not a valid question to be asked of a member of A7X.

All I can say is "wow."  Sounds like MP really put Avenged Sevenfold in an awkward spot and made rushed announcements without even considering how it would affect them.

Well, in the weighty decision of leaving Dream Theater, I can understand MP not thinking about how publicity might affect A7X. What bugs me is Mike assuming they would want him on full time. It didn't necessarily have to come from an ego thing, he may have thought it would be an obvious help to the band or something, but in any case it was just a bad decision in a string made at that time.

???  She was interviewing a key member of Avenged Sevenfold about recent goings on in the band.  And Mike Portnoy's involvement in A7X, albeit temporary, was a VERY big part of the band's recent history.  Of course it would be asked about.  I'm not sure how you think it wouldn't.

KevShmev

Snake Eyes, to use Portnoy's vernacular, he was just answering a question he was asked and telling it like it is.

I chuckled when the interviewer and this AX7 dude used the wife/girlfriend analogy, lol...

AX7 guy: "It was causing us a lot of heartache to see our named in this drama-filled love triangle.

Interviewer: "He divorced his wife for his girlfriend, and his girlfriend was like: 'Whoa, we hardly know each other.  You're much older."

AX7 guy: "That's exactly kind of how it was."
