oh but DT is your favorite band
\o\ lol /o/

ShadowWalker

No - Neal Morse - Testimony 2 is my album of the year.

ADTOE is top 10. I have not given it full thought yet as to what will follow the Neal Morse release.

MK_Ultra

Probably second to Unto The Locust for me.

alirocker08

Considering I only paid attention to about 4 album releases this year, I have to say yes, ADTOE is my favourite album of the year, followed by RS2 (those bonus tracks <3), even more closely followed by Heritage.

As for the other album I paid attention to, I was meant to pay attention to it but I never did, Voltaire's Riding a Black Unicorn...But I never did.

Christina Perri's Lovestrong is pretty damn good though oh god please don't kill me

Voted not sure.   ADTOE is tied with Arch Matheos' Sympathetic Resonance.     Black Country Communion 2 would come in 3rd, then Opeth Heritage.

RS2 is good IMO but not as good as ADTOE. Heritage still isn't "clicked" for me although I like rest of their discography.
Origin's Entity is close to ADTOE IMO.

bss4life15

Deconstruction and Ghost are the only albums ahead of it and The Hunter is about tied.

Sigz

No way. Initially I wasn't impressed by it at all, but after a few listens it actually clicked really nicely and I really like it now. That said, I can think of at least 10 releases that I like more.

Lowdz

Absolutely ADTOE is album of the year for me.
It hasn't been a great year musically for me at all and ADTOE was head and shoulders above everything else.

2nd would be Night Ranger Somewhere In California, it's excellent and I've played that ALOT.
3rd Myrath Tales Of The Sand. Only had this a short time but I really like it.
Steel Panther- Balls Out is great too, but not for everyone.
Within Temptation- Unforgiven is good.
The Arch/Mattheos was terrible. I don't like many of the bands that have been mentioned in this thread...
Nowhere near the year 1987 was!

Ravenheart

It's a good album, but no, I can think of a bunch of releases I like a lot more.

jcmistat

The most excited I've been for an album and the best of my 2011.

I voted "Yes, but competition was fierce."  And I'm still not 100% sure it will be #1, but I think it most likely will.  Fierce competition from Neal Morse (both the studio and the live release), Redemption, Arch/Matheos, Within Temptation, and Transatlantic, and lots of other good albums not too far behind those (Trivium, Symphony X, Megadeth...).  It's been an absolutely terrific year for music.

PixelDream

No, but it's definately top 10. I'm not even sure I like it better than BC&SL although I like the direction they're taking with this. I'm very disappointed with the sonics of the record, which definately contributed to a less intense listening experience.

Better albums:

Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning (my album of the year)
Opeth - Heritage
Devin Townsend - Deconstruction & Ghost

matt1722

For Me right now it's a fierce fight between Deconstruction and ADOTE. Both are spectacular albums IMO. So I guess I've gotta listen to both a few more times before I make my own End of the Year best list before I decide. God wouldn't that be weird if they gasp  :| tied. .  .  :omg:

Bon Iver - Bon Iver was my number one, followed by Grace for Drowning, then Major/Minor, then The Color Spectrum, then Weightless, and finally ADTOE.

EDIT: Watch the Throne comes before ADTOE as well as Parallax

Mosh

No. It's my second favorite, behind the new Foo Fighters. It was very close.

CodyWanKenobi

My latest concept album "IV: Timber" IS OUT NOW!

7thHanyou

Mine is As the World Bleeds by Theocracy.  It's probably in my top 10 metal albums.

I'm not even sure I like ADToE more than Octavarium, but I do rather enjoy it.  I bet it's a grower, but I doubt I'll like it more than As the World Bleeds.

It's in second place.  ;)

dongringo

Yes, by far for me. I'm enjoying many new releases, but the competition really wasn't that fierce.

Kosmo

Top 5:

The Dear Hunter - The Color Spectrum
Thrice - Major/Minor
Devin Townsend - Ghost
Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning
Haken - Visions

And then ADTOE would probably rank at number six.

vulcandj

Definitely number one on my book. I listen to it everyday, and continue to find the little things that take a while to notice.

ZeppelinDT

Nope.  Dear Hunter, Manchester Orchestra and Kimbra all beat it.  Mercies, Fleet Foxes and Fair to Midland also provide some pretty fierce competitions.  Probably in my top 10 though.

SlitherX

Second to only Heritage by Opeth.

ADTOE is pretty sweet though.

Well according to my last.fm, Ive listened to ADTOE more than any other album, but it's only because it was my most anticipated release of the year. I would say Neal Morse, Beardfish, and The Tangent albums were better, and there was also Steven Wilson, Opeth, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, etc. Im just a DT fan boy, so I cannot truly judge a DT album until waaayyyyy after a new album has been out.

So I voted the second option.

Heretic

It's up there with Fair to Midland's Arrows & Anchors, Thrice's Major/Minor, Mastodon's The Hunter, and August Burns Red's Leveler, among some other albums. Definitely a fantastic release though, top 5 for sure.

PuffyPat

Portugal. The Man's In the Mountain in the Cloud is by far my favorite album of year, but DT isn't that far behind.

lumpy33

i voted "not sure."  it's so hard to pick when my two favorites this year were the new d.t. and joshua redman's James Farm.  they're just so different.

WildeSilas

Definitely my Most Listened To so far, but Mastadon's The Hunter was hot on its heels. I also discovered Spock's Beard this year and IV hasn't left my disc changer, but I don't think that counts since it's older.

Thanks for mentioning Joshua Redman. I saw him back in the day with Pat Metheny, Christian McBride and the late Billy Higgins at a small Portland club. He was on fire back then. Unfortunately, I lost track of what he's been doing. I'll have to check out James Farm for sure. Incidentally, he's playing the Portland Jazz Fest in February. Might have to go now.

EDIT: Man, Eric Harland is on this? That's reason enough to get it. He's a phenomenal drummer.

jjrock88

Toss up for me between Symphony X or Anthrax for album of the year; ADToE grew on me after repeated listens though.

darkshade

New Symphony X was disappointing as hell
