MONTEREY -- For more than 25 years, the colorful, mosaic-tiled Dream Theater sign stood proud in New Monterey as a beacon of creative spirit.

The Dream Theater was a local institution, famous for its midnight showings of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and its cushioned sofas and pillows for seating.

The sign was handmade and designed by theater owners John Harris and Alan Weber in 1975, when the pair opened the theater.

When the theater was torn down in 2002, many wondered what became of the unique sign.

Turns out the sign was hiding in Pacific Grove. Its caretaker, Michael John Garland, kept it in good condition for the past decade.

On Tuesday, Garland brought it out of his home storage to move it to a new storage place in Carmel Valley.
