While listening to BAI over the weekend (which continues to blow me away), I noticed during the instrumental section that there is a riff in there (at 5:21) that I would love to have been explored more. It got me thinking about other DT songs that have the insane instrumental parts and I began to wonder if other fans have parts in songs that they wish DT would expand on or maybe just play for a few more bars.

thought you were going to say "cowbell" and I was going to be like YES

Good one :hefdaddy

I wish A Nightmare To Remember was about as long as 8VM, by giving MP's vocal section alot more length, like 8 extra minutes.

I started a thread about the exact same thing a month ago or so :lol

Totally agree, I would have loved if they had explored that feel more.

I really wish they would've done something more with that riff at the end of The Dark Eternal Night. It's my favorite part of the song... and it's just the outro. :(

What you mean is "dat funky section." I would love to hear it for longer, with variations.

I had a feeling that there may have been a thread like this, but I honestly wasn't sure of how I could search for it. :-\

No, what I like about BAI is that it fires so rapidly from one awesome keyboard/guitar riff into another, quite often they never get repeated which makes it so special for me.

They could go into an instrumental jam of that leading into more instrumental jamming with the As I Am riff from 1:15 played at the slower temp of TDEN's outro.

WildeSilas

JP's little 16 bar solo section right after the intro to Surrounded before the band kicks in - I wish it would have come back somewhere else in the song.

The Presence of Frenemies

I wish AROP's instrumental section was based on the descending riff that immediately follows the chorus. It's got a really great feel, and I don't care for all of the stuff after it that they actually put in (the breakdown riff, much of JP's solo, and especially the Bebot stuff).

lumpy33

the heavy riff right before the news feed outro section comes in at the end of the great debate.  may i have some more, please?

jcmistat

3:40 in BAI to 3:54. the start of that drum roll and Petrucci's riff I want more of that.

bss4life15

I just wish there was a better ending

Good point. There's even some riffs you can notice over the course of the discography that kind of hint at themes that JP wants to explore later. Of course, they're much easier to see in retrospect.

There's a bunch of riffs on FII, especially Lines in the Sand, that feel very SFAM to me, which makes a lot of sense given the history of the making of FII.

I wish that people would be happy with what they are given.

Deve

THOSE BRIEF FEW MOMENTS OF THAT SONG WERE QUITE POSSIBLY THE GREATEST THING EVER

I would have loved if they'd gone off on a tangent and had some fun with it, but I also think it's great for what it is, something you have to take a double-take with and say "wait a minute...did they really just do that?!" and then listen to it again. At least that's what I did on my first listen though AHA

rush-signals

Amen! I love past DT and totally worship the new DT. No complaints here. Take it for what it is and enjoy, if not, suck it!

When I started this, it was not meant as a complaint. I am a long time fan, and love what dream theater does, nor do I expect them to write for us, they do that for them. My apologies if it was taken the wrong way (as it appears it was).

About to Crash.... much more About to Crash.

I've always wanted that War Inside My Head was longer......

Lotion

Last chorus on BTS, ACOS solo at the Another world and the last riff in the last chorus of OTBOA should've been longer.

TheSoylentMan

YES! I felt *exactly* the same way. I LOVE that little riff at 5:21 but it's over so soon! The theme does come back at 5:51 with JP rocking out on it for another 10 seconds, which makes me feel better. Part of me wants a whole song built on that groove, but honestly I think DT made the right call. Leave 'em wanting more, right? There are easily enough ideas in BAI for a whole album from a "normal" band.

This, it's one of my favorite parts of SDOIT (although SDOIT as whole is a bit too long).

ehra

I've always wished Hell's Kitchen went on longer, but it's already so good that I'd be worried it'd be brought down if any more were added.

That's easily my fav part of the song. Would've loved like 5 minutes of that.
