Or maybe people should just understand that there are more important things than posting in DTF. The guy has said that he's been really busy lately and whenever he finds time he comes here and post so let him be. The posts may be sporadic but he hasn't left us hanging for a month o anything...

DebraKadabra

To be fair, the first of his Top 50 posts was going on two months ago.
Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite
Basically Kyoko Kirigiri

And it always seems like the person always gets busy when they finally have to do their list.

EDIT: I think it would be good if everyone had their lists and write ups written beforehand so if they do get busy, they can take the 1 minute to log onto DTF and copy-paste their write up.

I support this idea.

Me too. This is taking far too long.

WTF, I'm away for a little while and the place goes to hell.

From now on, have your list done before your turn starts.  When it's time for the next person, I will PM them, and if their list isn't already done, they will get skipped.  Capiche?

You are the glue that holds DTF together when it gets knocked off the shelf by the kids. You are the fresh pair of batteries for the TV remote when it stops working. You are the reset button when the computer crashes. You are the umbrella when it rains. You're the eye of the tiger. You are the wind beneath our wings.

And yes, people should have their lists done ready. It's getting quite ridiculous how few of these lists get to the finish these days.

Can we implement a 10 song minimum rule per post?

The whole list in 5 posts? Doesn't sound any fun.

PROGdrummer

As long as the person posts regularly, 5 songs per post should be plenty. Any list could be finished in about a week's time as long as people stay regular with their posts. Throwing in a song or two at random times to help keep the thread alive isnt a bad idea either, as long as the poster actually posts SOMETHING.

Here you go lads and gals.   It was just meant to be a little fun, sorry it took so long but unfortunately I've been working away a lot.   At the end of the day it's a list, that's it.  But thanks for reading anyway! :)

Beneath the Surface was not one I was expecting, but I do think it would be on my list somewhere.

It's weird not seeing write-ups. It's half the reason I like these top 50, it gives more insight into why one enjoys one song and holds another as the top of them all.

SuperTaco

Octavarium is at the top of my list as well, it's really good to see it at #1.

BlackInk

How's it going bros, my name is peeew.. I mean welcome the list of my top 50 Dream Theater songs. I hope you'll enjoy reading the opinions of someone else about music you like for the next week or so. Let's start then.

____________________________________________________

50 - Vacant (Train of Thought)

Spoilers: The best of the three short piano ballads.

I wasn't going to give that away at first but to me it's the best way to describe what I think of this song to people who knows DT well, as I know probably all of you do. The reason I picked Vacant as my favorite of these songs is because the theme is great, the cello accompanies the piano wonderfully, the singing is excellent and the lyrics are flawless. The only change I would have made would have been to make it longer.

49 - One Last Time (Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory)

A smooth and solid song, with some great piano work from Rudess. I could understand if someone said that it is to much of a "pop"y song or whatever, but something about it just clicks with me. Love the "one last time" chorus, I think it's a great addition to themes of the album. But in the end what really makes this song earn a spot on my list is the parts from 2:20 and out. I guess it further adds some true progressiveness to an otherwise pretty straight forward song.

48 - Misunderstood (Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence)

A song that has pretty much fallen behind since the start of my interest in Dream Theater. I have rarely listened to it and hadn't even heard it in a long time before this write-up was written. But as I listen through it now I realize that this is actually a really good and obviously ironically misunderstood song. The experimental backwards solo parts is probably what keeps it at the near bottom of the top 50 though. But I still "understand" them and think are pretty cool, I wouldn't change them. This is song is what it should be.

47 - Strange Déjà Vu (Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory)

Scenes From a Memory kicks for real with this, at least to me, Dream Theater classic. So purely progressive and cleanly written it really shows me how Dream Theater has made it to the top of the prog metal genre. There isn't much more to say really, except that it's slightly better than Misunderstood and not quite as good as:

46 - Lines In the Sand (Falling Into Infinity)

I'm not gonna lie, I am NOT a fan of Falling Into Infinity. In the beginning I just thought that it was just bad luck that they produced this weird and forced album. But then I learned the story behind it and it all became a bit clearer, but I still didn't like it.

Lines In the Sand is song I have disliked for many years now. The only thing that echoed through my head whenever it crossed my mind was that really odd chorus with what seems like some random guy shouting his brains out between LaBrie's lines. But then not long ago I listened to it again, reeeaaally listened to it, and discovered that most parts of this song aren't bad at all. Some of my favorite parts are probably the "verse"thingies after the solo. 8:34 is wonderful and is probably a top DT moment for me.

But that chorus is still very odd and keeps this song from reaching a much higher position..

Great batch of songs, glad to see them included. This is gonna be interesting as well.

Greeeeeeeeat batch. In fact, too good for any of them to be that low. :lol :P

Adami

Something tells me that a majority of the top 10 will be songs from SC and TOT.

Just a guess.
