Only question for such an LTE-type project would be: What would it offer to DS that he didn't already have (better?) with Planet X?

The only thing I really hope is that MP isn't shooting for another classic rock/metal thing. I dunno, I'm just not interested in something like that, I think there's many other musicians who can do those things more convincingly. MP rose to fame because of his skill in prog drumming, not metal or rock drumming.
