Which one will it be?

This Dying Soul
The Root Of All Evil
Repentance
The Shattered Fortress

RoeDent

Repentance. Yes, Repentance is my favourite part of the 12SS. Just because it doesn't go with the majority of you doesn't mean it's "wrong" to have that as my favourite.

without TGP, it´s This Dying Soul for me.

The Shattered Fortress. SOOO epic.

After that, TROAE.

Then TDS.

And finally Repentence.

They decrease in quality with each album, though Repentance is where this really starts to show.

I agree with the sentiment, but the order of the top group would change.

I'm surprised that many people like TDS.  It's always been criticized as having too much wankery.

The Shattered Fortress

Went with this. Why? It's got the best parts of all the songs in it (well, riff wise), and ends with the ending of the first Step of the suite from TGP, so it's got some pretty sweet parts in it, and is a great medley of other 12SS riffs, with a great guitar solo from JP at the end.

The Root Of All Evil, even if The Glass Prison were included.
fucking dot.

Cool Chris

Why is there no option for 'When it ends'?    :D

TDS doesn't have too much wankery, it has too much annoying vocals.

Repentance has too much people talking.

I rarely listen to TSF, it has some good parts, and some not so good parts.

TRoaE is a great album opener, great live song, and great song in its own right.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

You know, I almost posted that myself but thought I was being too much of a smart ass.

The AA suite went on way too long, if you ask me. I remember the sinking sense of dread I felt when ToT came out and I realized "aww, damn, we're going through all 12 steps, aren't we?" It just got a little bloated and unwieldy by the end, and I'm glad that, regardless of MP being gone, that it was done. Part of my growing dismay with the last few Dream Theater albums was, "aww crap, here comes the AA suite song."-knowing that we were getting yet ANOTHER re-write of The Mirror again instead of moving in a new direction annoyed me at times, to be blunt.

I'm sure this is a massive YMMV, but that's how I saw it.

Excluding The Glass Prison, because it's fairly obvious that it's everyone's favorite. I would choose The Root Of All Evil.

For me its The Root of All Evil even if you include The Glass Prison.

AngelBack

Was there an option for "that it is over" ?

I absolutely love This Dying Soul. Its my favorite song on TOT and one of my favorite DT songs in general.

I very mildly enjoy The Glass Prison and the Root of all evil.

The rest I don't really like that much.

If we have to exclude TGP, I've gotta go with The Root of All Evil.

I guess The Root of All Evil, but I actually like all of them, and while The Glass Prison is clearly the best, I don't think there is much difference between the other four.

The best part is that it is over. ;)

The Shattered Fortress, not just for how much it rocks but for how well the title works with it's structure. Imagine standing after all the struggle to see the Shattered pieces of the glass prison lying around you, as you feel refreshed and free you see all the wrongs which caused the addiction while walking tall knowing you have the will to now fight as you help others in the room who are trapped in the glass prison as you once were.                             that's what i see while listening to the song, well the whole suite actually it's full circle in a way, reprising the beginning of the glass prison as the person whom you are helping.
