What's your least favorite song on ADTOE?

On the backs of angles
Build me up, break me down
Lost not forgotten
This is the life
Bridges in the sky
Outcry
Far from heaven
Breaking all illusions
Beneath the surface

berrege

There is pretty much a consensus about the best song on ADTOE (BAI), but what's in your opinion the worst (or your least favorite) song on ADTOE?

LNF to me, I really don't like it.

sagar_k

I wouldn't call it the worst song, but "Lost Not Forgotten" does nothing for me.

Metrovarium

Outcry. Parts of it are great, but it's not great as a whole song, IMO. It has one of the best choruses on the album, though.

Syzzle

skydivingninja

Easily Lost Not Forgotten.  The only low point on the album, IMO.  Its just boring and not up to the standards of the rest of the album.

BlobVanDam

Outcry. And that truly is a least favourite as opposed to bad, because it's not bad. It just doesn't interest me at all. But there's nothing particularly wrong with it that I dislike. It's the only song I have to skip when listening to ADTOE.

djentlemen

the whole album is great , but i have to go with beneath the surface , i originally wanted to choose bmubmd ,  but DAAAYUUUMMMM that is one badass song

MK_Ultra

Beneath The Surface, then LNF.

Also I'd disagree that there's a consensus about BAI being the best on the album.

krands85

Far From Heaven. It's grown on me a bit since I first heard the album, but I've always generally preferred the longer/heavier songs.

BMUBMD is the only other contender for my least favourite, I love all the other songs.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Mladen

This is the life

It's still a good song, though.

Nekov

Lost not forgotten, though BMUBMD is pretty close.

yep, certain parts of the song top the best moments in DT songs though , but for the most of it , meh

Zydar

Outcry, although BMUBMD could have gotten my vote as well.

?

BMUBMD, despite being a badass song, doesn't match the standards of the rest of the album IMO

Monsert riff work, but the rest of the song is just meeeh...a radio song.

ZKX-2099

Build Me Up, Break Me Down would have been my pick a week ago... but after a few more listens I gotta pick Beneath The Surface.

wasteland

LNF. Good song but not nearly as good as the rest of the album.

lumpy33

i'd say bmubmd.  the radio-song-quality comment hit the nail on the head.

i'm also just not getting the lost not forgotten folks.  other than the just average-ish chorus, the song delivers 11 minutes of wonderfully intense aggressive, progressive music.  isn't this why we listen to dream theater in the first place?  it's an incredible part of the album!!!

Pretty much exactly this.

OTBOA, only because i overplayed the shit out of it when it first came out

INKOWERITE!

This is the life got my vote. Its a decent song but i find my self skipping it most of the time.

Ben_Jamin

BMUBMD, I really enjoy the flow of this album and it's songs a whole lot but this one is the one i listen to the least. doesn't mean I don't like it

Build Me Up, Break Me Down is a pretty forgettable song.  It gets a lot of praise, but I don't understand why.

It's "winning" the poll. I almost never see praise for it. I don't understand why you think it is praised.

nemesiskoen

Build Me Up, Break Me Down... The intro is just bad, the rest is kinda ok, but not as great as the rest of the album.

I see a lot of "this song is awesome" comments.  I can search for them and post them if you like, but it would be a waste of everyone's time.

Most of the people posting say they don't dislike their least favorite song...but I don't see what's even likeable about BMUBMD.

Why do prog fans have such a mental block about simple songs? What's to get? It's got a cool riff, a big chorus to headbang to, and it's a concise little song that just packs a punch.

Werd. My main gripe with Build Me Up, Break Me Down is that the ending atmosphere bit drags on and kills momentum.

Wolfpacker96

Nice to see that Breaking All Illusions has gotten no votes!  Build me Up, Break Me Down is definately my least favorite, but I can't say I run screaming from the room when I hear it.   :omg:  I just like it the least, though Lost Not Forgotten, for no reason I can put my finger on is a close second.

I listen to The Moody Blues (hell, I might like them more than Dream Theater), They Might Be Giants, Fountains of Wayne, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, and Flogging Molly.  Roll the Bones and Signals, respectively, are my second- and third-favorite Rush albums (A Farewell to Kings is my favorite, and it's no Hemispheres).  Many of my favorite Dream Theater songs are damn simple; The Silent Man, Another Day, Surrounded, and Hollow Years are all up there for me.  I even like Status Seeker, which tons of Dream Theater fans seem to have an irrational hatred for.  Forsaken is my favorite song on Systematic Chaos, which admittedly isn't saying much but there you go.  Child of Innocence is one of my top 10 favorite Kansas songs.

I think I have my "non-prog" credentials sorted out.  I just can't stand the sound, lyrics, melody, or tone of BMUBMD.  It has nothing to do with it being short.

GasparXR

Beneath the Surface, although it really shows how great the album is as a whole, because I definitely enjoy the song.

Also, BITS hasn't gotten any votes. Good thing, because it is second only to BAI IMO.

I listen to The Foo Fighters, Evanescence, Audioslave, Soundgarden, Trivium, and many more non-prog bands. I definitely have my non-prog creds.

I was mostly generalizing, rather than aiming that specifically at you, although I notice that none of those things you mentioned were remotely metal (except for Forsaken). Some prog fans just seem to have something against straight-up metal. Again, not aimed specifically at you, as obviously DT is prog metal, so most people are a fan of both to at least some degree.
