I noticed that the keyboard sample in the first few seconds of OTBOA is almost the same as the one in the ending of TCOT (the nature (?) sort of thing). I know it is common for DT to do this and cannot help wondering if they are starting another "Meta Album," where the ending of the album before is exactly the same as the next album.

Thoughts?

something_wicked

I always thought it sounded much more like the beginning of "Home".

theseoafs

They are not the same sample, and though they are both nature sounds I don't believe this was an intentional move to make another meta-album (they would still be doing the first one if they liked it so much). Besides, DT usually acknowledges the transition when they're on tour (usually through the intro tape) and they haven't yet done that.

WindMaster

I see. I was kind of hoping for another meta-album. We'll see when the next album comes out!

It seems too similar for it to be a coincidence. If it is a purposeful connection, it would make a lot of sense, since it connects DT's last album before MP and their first one after MP.

BlobVanDam

It is a similar sound, and I definitely noticed a similarity to TCOT, but it's not the exact same sample. Not to mention, I doubt DT would want to do a "meta album" that continues on from their last one with MP. I think they wanted a 100% fresh start with this one.

Don't forget that it also sounds like they are saying Scooby Doo

BlobVanDam

And damn whoever it was that pointed that out, because now every time I listen to OTBOA, I whisper SCOOBY DOOBY DOOOO under my breath. It can't be unheard.

manticore999

I never noticed it, actually. TCOT was so awful I think I only listened to it twice. I really like OTBOA, though.

WindMaster

LOL, is the SCOOBY SCOOBY DOOO in the sample I was talking about?

Jamesman42

To me, how I like to think about it is this: TCOT ends with strings, and strings have that little waviness to their sound (I am forgetting the technical term here atm). Like, to sustain the strings it it some vibrato to it (there's the word, fuck editing the post). OTBOA has a more smooth intro. It's like ADTOE is smoothing out where BC&SL. To me. Even if it wasn't intentional...it's one of those things I like to read into the music.

I'm pretty sure it's the exact same samples from the end of Tuscany, but reversed

Tried this on Audacity now, and it't not quite that, although it seems pretty close. Think Jordan might've taken the seagull noises, reversed them, slowed them and maybe pitch-shifted them too. Both bits do share a similar sort of rhythm, so i'm leaning toward the same original sample.

Lowdz

It must be a continuation and Scooby and the gang turned up at the Count's place and unmasked him as Old Man Withers. He'd have got away with it too if it wasn't for that Bear dude turning up.

I always hear it as "The promise can't be true", due to someone pointing it out back when the song was released. :rollin

I hear it as "It could be true". That was the first thing I heard, and I don't think I'll be hearing it as anything else, now that I've convinces myself that's what being said. Especially not Scooby Doo.

Although "The promise can' be true" goes better with the lyrical theme.
