The Silent Cody

Hard one, but I went with A Dramatic Turn Of Events, 6DOIT is a great album with two almost worst DT songs for me...

KevShmev

Wow, this turned out to be a virtual dead heat.

BlobVanDam

Well let's not get ahead of ourselves here, the poll is still open for another 6 years....

I don't get it really..

6DOIT (the song) is a lyrical and musical masterpiece. The entire concept of the different mental disorders for each movement, and tying it all together to make a statement in the last verse, is simply mind blowing. They did an incredible job of capturing the feeling of the disorders, and translating those feelings musically.

Misunderstood is a lyrical and musical masterpiece, the outro is the point of the song btw! Jordans keys make the song incredible. If you really listen to it, it's one of their few true avant-guarde type of songs.

Disappear is the same, a masterpiece.

The Glass Prison, that is all.

Blind Faith is a very solid song, not top 25 but not even close to the bottom either.

The drums on The Great Debate aren't really challenged by many other songs besides Metropolis PT 1 as being the best MP has ever done. Like the lyrical subject matter or not, I think it's a pretty bad ass song with some great peaks and valleys. Really MP's drums steal the show for me with this song.

I love ADTOE so far, but it just cannot compete with all of that. It's not even close.

This is where it currently stands for me:

1. SFAM
2.1 - I&W
2.2 - 6DOIT
4 - Awake

5 - FII
6.1 - 8VM
6.2 - ADTOE

Still an awesome album :)

I'm so torn on this one, that I'm not even going to vote. These albums rank #3 and #4 in DT's catalog for me.. I just can't decide which is which.

6DOIT has Blind Faith which is probably the best song on either album, imo. TGP, Disappear, and part of 6DIOT (the song( are great... particularly Goodnight Kiss until the end.  The first part of 6DOIT is a little lackluster for me, especially the extended intro, and some of the lyrics are a little weak. TGD is a little weak in places, especially lyrically, and Misunderstood a little slow, but at the same time, 6DIOT as a whole is MUCH more unique in DT's catalog and more experimental.

ADTOE, on the other hand, is a much safer album, but also more consistently good, IMO. It's not as diverse as 6DOIT, but it doesn't have as many skippable sections/songs for me.

Guess I'm just going to need more time to see where which one gets the #3 spot.

PixelDream

It's basically DT reinventing themselves or DT playing it safe and old school. I like SDOIT better, a lot better. In fact it's my favorite DT album, ADTOE is #7. Still good though.

The Letter M

Just cuz I'm bored and I like doing things like these (like I did in the IAW-vs-Awake poll)...

The Glass Prison vs. Bridges In The Sky - TIE
Blind Faith vs. Lost Not Forgotten - TIE
Misunderstood vs. On The Backs Of Angels
The Great Debate vs. Breaking All Illusions
Disappear vs. Far From Heaven (But it was close...)
Overture/About To Crash vs. This Is The Life
War Inside My Head/The Test That Stumped Them All vs. Build Me Up, Break Me Down
Goodnight Kiss/Solitary Shell vs. Beneath The Surface
About To Crash (Reprise)/Losing Time/Grand Finale vs. Outcry

Half of these comparisons don't make sense, but it proves a point that comparing two GREAT albums like these really doesn't make much sense as they are completely different in many ways, but they are both SO great.

I think you need to absorb an album for at least a year before you place it properly on you're all time list.
Reflection often changes perspective.
Too soon for me to say.

Dellers

Right now: A Dramatic Turn Of Events. Not by much, but The Glass Prison makes it a pretty easy choice.

Metrovarium

ADTOE is #4, SDOIT is #5. Both albums are incredible, but the first disc of SDOIT never felt like a whole to me, so I find it hard to rate it highly.

Any particular reason to compare the two?

The only correct answer, btw, is 6DoiT

I think there's a feeling and general concensus that ADTOE is the best thing DT have done since SDOIT.  And the closeness of this poll kinda bears that out.

ADTOE is great, but SDOIT is the most perfect album ever recorded by anyone ever, and in a league of its own, so SDOIT without a moment of hesitation.

ADTOE

and inb4 Blob comes and votes SDOIT  :lol

Oh, hello there. :metal

I guess you haven't listened to a lot of albums  :hat

I was joking. ;)
It is indeed a great album and one of the best of DT.

Oh, right.  Nevermind.

A BlobVanDam and an SDOIT walk into a bar, and the SDOIT says, "Bartender, get me a ginger ale."  The bartender says, "We don't serve progressive metal albums here."  And the BlobVanDam says, "JuS' DO IT!"

...

Yeah, this is why I don't make jokes.

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence hands down. My #1 DT album. ADToE is rising fast but I think it will top out at 5 maybe 4.

ResultsMayVary

I'm glad Blob and I agree. SDOIT was the best album ever recorded. So much fucking perfection. :metal

Progmetty

I really dislike the second CD without getting into an argument about it's nature.
WIMH, TTTSTA & Solitary Shell are great tracks, Goodnight Kiss is a good track.
The other four tracks I find myself waiting for them to end, I find them so dull and I find the "grandness" they suggest to be very forced and repetitive.
CD1 is gold of course.

Arghhh... tough one... 6DOIT to me. Not by much though.

Six degrees is a Master Piece.  Not sure ADToE has that status yet or if it ever will.

The King in Crimson

Six Degrees prolly.

Oh and Bridges >>> The Prison

GunsOfThePatriots

SDOIT for sure . a magical album .

i really hope for ADTOE to age well like SDOIT . we'll see after a couple years

This makes me want to do a "The Glass Prison or Bridges In The Sky" poll

The correct answer is Glass Prison.

I like Bridges in the Sky way better, it is more original and and true to DT"s sound. Glass prison has some Pantera vibe to it in sections, but still a cool song nonetheless.

And how is it that having a Pantera vibe is a bad thing?  ???
